Is the front handguard homebrew or did you buy it?

All 3 of mine, the red one isn't finished, I just put stock internals in it so I could start shooting it. Gonna upgrade one piece at a time

Not certain I’m ever happier than working on/improving a 10/22 rifle. Buddy bought a nice walnut DSP. We went and shot a few weeks ago. He was complaining about the trigger weight. Blah blah blah... it’s now in my hands. I’ll machine in a barrel clean out hole in the rear of the receiver, along with a drilled/tapped hole to keep the TG tight in the receiver. Square up the bolt face and set to spec. Most factory ones are NOT square and over .004 out of headspace spec. I’ll also give the bolt a nice polished radius on the rear for easy cycling with lower (more accurate) velocity rounds. Will tap a overtravel trigger stop, auto bolt release, polish the plunger and hammer strut. And of course rework the hammer/sear engagement angles for a better break, along with the J&B Weld creep fix. Here’s how it sits at this minute...

Got a Volquartsen Firefly bolt in the mail on Monday, and threw this together out of spare parts the other day...

Ruger walnut Sporter stock, 16.12" barrel from a 10/22 compact, and a BX trigger group. Fires and cycles CCI Quiet .22 rounds perfectly! Neighbor approved...

Very nice little rifle, looks like you got a pretty good piece of wood with that DSP as well.

Nice snag...I wasn’t even aware there was such a thing as a laminate carbine stock.

I think this one was made special for some store, maybe Walmart? Came with the laminate stock, Ruger marked sling, and the scope. Not sure how old it is, but it's pre plastic barrel band and trigger guard.

I had the barrel threaded, and added the comp.

I was looking for a 10-22, saw a couple that didn't do much for me. I almost missed this one. Serial number reveals its a 1990. No wear on it. Had it checked by the expert I was with (Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant). Always nice to go gun shopping with an expert.

So my dad got a 10/22 for free (he’s 50, been a hunter all of his life and never owned one before) from a promotion Academy did last year, I put one round through it and trigger failed to reset, gun shop sent it back to Ruger and they replaced the trigger pack for free.

He’s debating modding it a little as he doesn’t really have a use for it as a stock rifle, so he wants to either get an integrally suppressed barrel or something like the Tac-Sol SB-x (?) barrel and a thumbhole stock.

Do you guys have suppressed setups with thumbhole stocks?

I'd never buy a integrally suppressed barrel gun. It's a lot more fun being able to use a can on multi guns.

I can use mine on my 10/22. Ruger MK IV, Savage Mark II FV SR, and on a dedicated 22 AR upper.

    Ruger has killer customer service.

I bought the competition 10/22, put my big Vortex scope on it, and got 2nd in my first ever rimfire match. 112ED511-FC6E-441F-A26E-03E643B9AD76.jpg3021AEA2-3DDB-4D87-8F44-CC23FDF935A8.jpg

Nice! What ammo were you using? Try all you can come across, SK Pistol Match is usually a good place to start. CCI SV shoots well in most rifles, and is a cheap practice round. Keep us posted.

Wow! I've heard good things about the competition model, but a rifle can't do that by itself...you've got some talent. Good job.

Here is my 10/22 set up. I have found the rifle will shoot as good as I can most days,)
