There have been quite a few people banned recently for B/S/T rules, and I've seen several "I didn't know that was a rule" posts in regional/local threads.

How about when a person signs up for the site and they click on the link to confirm their email, that link redirects the new user to a few simple "Welcome to TacomaWorld" pages. Each page would have a simplified version of the biggest offending rules (with a link to the full set of rules) and "Accept" and "Decline" buttons at the bottom before the user can go to the next page.

Page 1) Code of Conduct (family friendly, no threats, no stirring sh!t up in the 3rd Gen section)
    Page 2) Buy/Sell/Trade (50 non-sh!tposts, pics/price required, this isn't Craigslist, etc.)
Page 3) Other rules (TW Live, or whatever...)
Page 4) Welcome to TacomaWorld! (links to the fun stuff like the first message @tcBob sends to everyone)

Finally, lock the new user from posting anywhere until they acknowledge all of the rules. This would stop a lot of the "I didn't know that was a rule" excuses.

You write “sh!t” and also describe TW as family friendly in the same post? MY POOR EYEBALLS!

Exactly, because it’s a sticky post in a sub-forum. You wouldn’t see it if you were to post something for sale in just about any other area of the site.

I agree that brand new members can easily miss that there are rules pertaining to bst.

Nice to see that you are making an effort to bring up the matter.

Since I have been a member (Feb 2016) I have always been amazed the number of brand new members starting threads when there are already so many threads dealing with their question.

Seems like a 50 post restriction before creating a thread would also help these members learn the ropes and maybe the search function

    Just my observation.

Think the staff here do a great job, and pretty sure everything is the way it is for a reason.

    Cheers

    This problem/idea comes up regularly..

They’ve done different things before, and the problem remains - you can redirect people to a flashing page that says one word on it and they still completely ignore it.

I never implied that this was a perfect, foolproof solution. It’s merely a suggestion to help reduce some of the reported posts. Also, everyone who’s already a member now wouldn't even see this or be affected by it.

I'm a Continuous Improvement professional, and I deal with this all the time, and that quote is recognizing the other side of the cycle:
Make something ==> someone will break it ==> make it better ==> someone will break it ==> make it better ==> someone will break it...

The fact that people will fail shouldn't be a deterrent for coming up with new solutions to current problems. With each improvement, you end up with a better product/service. Yes, there will always be people to screw things up in incredibly spectacular ways, but there will be a lot fewer of them.

....and those are the people that give job security to people like me.
