Lol.. Wow in 10-15 years we will be asking how low do you go before you re-charge. Gas, down to to 3/4 to 1/2 tank at most. Like to be prepared.

I fill up when I get 1/4 unless on a road trip. Another rule for me is always click the gas cap (locking cap or not). The last thing I want is a CEL light because of a loose cap.

The old Tacomas, 3/4 to empty, drove to much to do anything else.
The 3/4 ton, I try not to go to much past 2/3 of a tank before filling up, it used to be $125 to fill from empty, don't even want to know how much it is to fill the beast up from empty now.....
The daily is the VW TDI, gets 40 mpg with all my tools, like a thousand pounds, and I drive like 600-800 miles a week, so just before empty, then 11 gallons, and then 450 miles, perfect.

As long as you don't run it on empty, doesn't really matter. Fuel pump needs fuel to cool it. Folk who say "I know my vehicle and route" are asking for something random to occur that throws a wrench into their plan.
Personally, with my current job, I fill up anytime I get into town and haul back 15 gallons extra in cans to dump in after a week. That usually puts me at 1/4-1/2 tank when I pull up to the gas station.

When low fuel light lights up is when I refuel. I trust the gas tank indicator.. it is accurate.

today I did it again… no issues… I wait until I get close to home where there is a BJs and I have 10 cents off anytime I fill up..

On higher mileage cars u dont wanna do that cause it could allow some crud into the fuel line. Fuel pump also needs gas to keep itself from getting hot.

That said, I try and never get below 1/4 tank.

The Costco price is good if you live on the Kona side. I paid $4.85 yesterday here in the mountains of AZ.
I usually fill at half a tank. I live rural but work from home, so I don't have to fill as often.

Yeah, I consider that. I think the current understanding of the reserve is 2-3 gallons. Your comment may be one of the specific reasons the reserve is there: partly for a ‘oops’ buffer, and partly to protect the pump.

I agree that just because the truck *can* tow 6400 doesn’t mean you should. But on the tank fill, I guess I need to go read the manual and see if it has anything explicitly to say about it.

I never get below 1/4 of a tank. My bug-out-kit is always on standby and my teardrop is ready to roll at the drop of a hat. I figure if some sh*t goes down
I can G.T.F. outta here in 30 minutes or less with enough to get by on for several days and then figure out what is what.

I usually fill at 1/4 a tank. I daily drive it, and that amount usually lasts me Monday to Monday. Always sucks when we do anything extra, makes it go a lot quicker like that.

same. It’s always habit to fill up at 3/4 tank. That way Its never urgent to fill up.

1/2 tank or so gets a fill up in most cases. Also, I usually fill real slow as I’m convinced less splash/gas/evaporation during fill ups. I used to go full force until an engineer friend of mine convinced me that a slow steady (first click) was better than pumping at full force… probably saving a few quarters worth? Now this should start some comments/discussion.

Slogging out miles on the interstate, anywhere from 1/4 to fuel light coming on. Back country Utah, Nevada and parts of the southwest in general, I consider 1/2 a tank as empty.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    ^^ This too.
Yeah, well - that's when I really start paying attention to my routes (and fuel prices).
Most for me was 19.4 gallons.
I pay attention to my routes and fill up when I'm near a lowest price station AND/OR when one of the above conditions applies.

We are creatures of habits. I use to fill up at 1/4 tank. Today my habits change, I prefer to keep more fuel in the truck. Yes I do not drive as much.
But It is nice know if there is a emergency or power outages , you will have enough fuel to reach the other side of the island.

For me personally I have always ran my vehicles to empty or close to it then fill up. My thinking is I will get better mileage when the fuel level drops because of the weight of the fuel. Might just be me but that’s the way I think about it. I have ran out of gas one time in my life.

Always at half. That way I know I have like at least 150 miles of range if I need to get out of dodge or if I'm somewhere rural with limited gas availability.

i like sheetz and sunoco gas. last 2-3 times i've filled up at Exxon it ran like complete garbage. this current tank (exxon) makes the exhaust smell like sulfur.
