    they are putting twin turbo v8 diesels in the 2014 model the dealership told me a week ago

    While a 4cyl or 6cyl diesel may not be too far off at least in a few years, like 5-7 years, there is no way Toyota will put a V8 in the Tacoma. Why? Simple, the Tundra is their cash cow which has the most profit margin. That is the reason they are so hesitant to put any modern features in the newer Tacomas because than people wouldn't buy or upgrade to the Tundra. Putting a V8 in a Tacoma would take away from the Tundra sales and there is no way they are going to do that.
