And this friends is how myths get perpetuated on the internet.

Do me a favor... go to Moab or any crawl situation and try to do it without putting it in a bind. You can't, and slipping a tire is much easier than breaking a gear.
    Physics are your friend.

Some of us have panties that wedge up with very little provocation. Did you have any helpful tips in avoiding this or are you here just to point out and mock this uncomfortable and debilitating affliction?

This is EXACTLY what I do. Tell the wife. It's part of maintenance of the truck, mind, and body.

OP I wouldn't stress about it. When the situation arises, toss it in 4HI. No need to get 10 miles a month, that's just some arbitrary number. It's so someone with a 10 year old truck who's never engaged 4x4 doesn't bitch to Toyota that the one time they go to engage it, it doesn't work.

I guess a truck that's "never been offroaded" is one to stay away from if buying used

It truly doesn’t matter imo. I bought my truck when it was 12 years old, 168k miles on it, and I’d bet you 4wd was never used. The damn thing still has original spark plugs in it for crying out loud.

4wd engaged so smoothly I thought it wasn’t working at first.

Slick rock in Moab has a much higher coefficient of friction than pavement. Point is, tires will scrub long before the CV joints or transfer case grenades.
Unless... you do something stupid, like doughnuts on dry pavement in 4hi or put it in 4HI, put the wheel against the stops, tach it to 5K and shift into D.
The truck is designed for abuse, not stupidity.

I’m pretty sure Chinese algebra is the same as all algebra. It’s math. There aren’t different rules for different languages ;)

I blew an OEM CV turning into a covered dry gas station off a road that was covered in ice, so my experience is a bit different where that's concerned. Maybe it was already compromised who knows.

Inner tulip basically exploded inside the boot, flopped around like a broken wrist

Lol look at a simple algebra problem in Mandarin. You will recognize nothing! They write their numbers and letters a bit differently...
