    Y’all are too kind!

Despite me catching a nasty cold right before we left, my fiancée and I had a great weekend in the woods. More on that later...

I’m still going through a bunch of pics from my camera, but here are a few phone shots from last weekend’s trip up to northern Colorado.

No crazy wheeling at all, but we saw some beautiful country, found a campsite with a view all to ourselves on a holiday weekend, and ate some really great food. Even though I was sick as a dog, I wasn’t going to miss a chance to spend a few days in the woods with my lady. So glad that we pushed through and made it happen!

It isn’t a camping pic, but it was the final piece in a really amazing birthday week. We got to see Gary Clark Jr., one of my favorite blues players, at Red Rocks in the rain. It was absolutely, positively, the best show I’ve seen there, hands down. He tore it up!

    :infantry:

Funny you should mention it... I actually went through and pulled out a bunch of shit that I used to drag along when we would go camping. It wasn’t getting used, so it got yanked.

I’ll never be a minimalist backpacker type of car camper when I have a truck that can bring the comfort, but she doesn’t need to be a fatass for no good reason either.

It was all so damn good. It helps when you know that you’re just gonna post up at a spot for a few days. You can bring a little more of the comforts of home when you’re not breaking camp every night.

The steak, potatoes, eggs and asparagus was the shit!

    Thanks, Ben!

I still have a bunch of pics on my DSLR that I need to go through, but I’m such a photography noob. Hopefully there are at least a few good ones in there.

Regarding the stump table, I’m almost certain that someone was squatting there for a few months not that long ago. There was an area for a tarp awning or shelter as well as a pretty slick lean-to for a toilet enclosure. Unlike a lot of the campsites around here, there was hardly any trash either.

I can deal with beer cans and trash. It’s the broken glass that kills me. Especially with kids and dogs.

A year or two back, I camped with some buddies a ways up Leavenworth Creek and we found a fucking printer that someone had dragged up there, shot to hell, and then left. I hauled it back and threw it away.

    ETA: People suck.

    Dog, camper.
The trash has gotten bad for sure, but here is something even more insidious to think about...
the pot edibles that some of these tards leave behind or drop while they are partying.
My friends dog got a hold of something a year ago, acted super lethargic, got us both worried, broke camp and got her to the vet that night.
She was stoned out of her mind, and of course the vet is looking down on both of us like we fed it to her on purpose. He works for CSU and I for the city, so that wasn't the case at all.
So canvas the areas closely. Chicken bones are also another major hazard. people are fuckin pigs.
    Sorry for the rant. :D

Brett Rants are always welcome here, whether it’s Old Brett or Young Brett!

That’s absolutely crazy about the edible thing. But it isn’t surprising. People are slobs. Hopefully the doggo was ok.

One of my pet peeves is seeing peels from oranges and bananas in the desert. Some might think it’s no big deal, but it will literally take decades for that stuff to decompose in that environment. I mean, I’m no fanatical environmentalist by any stretch, but a lot of this is just plain and simple laziness. Be a fucking adult, and clean up after yourself. Is it really that difficult?!

It reminds me of the same trip where I found the printer shot to pieces: There was a fire pit that was quite literally filled to the top of the ring with broken Corona bottles. It had to have been at least a couple case worth of bottles. It blew my damn mind.

I haven't had a good rant in a while - trying to stay out of the 1st gen thread for the most part, so that helps.

But yeah, litter sucks. We didn't even start the Kokopelli last year before I picked up that coors box full of empties. :(

Which reminds me, will we be seeing you out there this year, Jason?

Sadly, probably not this year. Lots of other things going on around that time, unfortunately, and my truck needs some serious attention.

How are you liking the GFC so far?

Still super happy with it. Got a dozen nights in it, and will get several more in before the end of the season.

Comfortable, easy setup for camping, and it didn't affect how I use my truck from hard wheeling like Holy Cross, to fast two track.

I cleaned a ton of crap on my last VA trip, always try to make the camp better than I when I got there.

The glass is most definitely the scariest. @Chux was exploring with his pup and his pup stepped on glass and sliced his paw open. I always watch out like a hawk when I take Mac now cause of that.

*EDIT* I was rewatching the kokopelli vids I made the other day and it made me miss you guys and Moab. :(

That’s awesome, Brett. Glad you’re still liking it. Seems like a really great option and one that I’ll definitely look at in a couple years. It’ll be cool to see where they are and what accessories they’ll have by then.
When Brett asked about RT this year it reminded me of the Kokopelli run. I had so much fun, and it was such a cool group of people. I’m glad that I got to meet all of you and that you were all so willing to help out a newbie like me.

If you make another RT run in the next few years, I’ll definitely make it happen so I can roll with you.

I definitely plan on it one day. Pritchett, BTR, Steel Bender, Metal Masher, and Kane Creek would be all on my list for the return trip. Would love to run Rose Garden up hill too.

Speaking of which, do you guys remember where camp was our first night at the start? Like actual coordinates? Asking for one of the NJ guys who's running it this year. @jubei @Squeaky Penguin @Tacofire98 @Reh5108
