Not this guy! I'm fine being overgeared for my 35s!

but they would compliment that 1" body lift so nice. And your speedometer would read correct too. Let's not lose sight of that factor. :D

Nah. I figure he drives as slow as he builds so his diff will be fine. Lol

Just checking in, looking good Jason. I don't think you're moving that slow but I have a parts shelf with more parts on it than the truck haha. Come up to WA sometime to wheel!

Okay a lot more awake today. Jason, you are going to pull your crush cans that the IFS skid mounts to right? Those crush cans are shit and you need to weld that crossmember directly to the frame.

Crap. I'm off 5 mph right now on stock gears. Indicated 65 for me is like 71 currently. Whats the next tooth size that might get me closer than 5 mph off?

Haha! Yes. I will definitely be pulling the crush cans. I only mocked up the bumper to confirm that it'll line up vertically after the body lift. When Monte mentioned that, I figured it would be easy enough to check using the floor jack and some clamps. That picture was just to show how I did that.

I'm not positive, but I think the 33 I'm running now is the highest tooth count you can get.

Other than a calibrator, I'm not sure there's much else that we can do.

    Thanks, Zane!

I know what you mean. I work on it when I can, which is never as much as I really want to.

And I'd love to get up to the PNW one of these days and check it out. So beautiful.

    Thanks again for stopping by!

Ah okay that makes much more sense. I can't wait to see it on! And would a 32 tooth make it better? I would need to look at the math you guys did.

I think smaller moves you the wrong direction.

Off the top of my head, I think running 35s and 4.88s would have worked perfectly with the 33 tooth gear because that combination gets you very close to the 'stock' numbers.

I'll save you and everyone else the math behind it, but that's my recollection. Because I'm overgeared, I still have error.

Ah gotcha, how many mph were you off before the new 33 tooth? Like 10-12 mph? If that's the case then I can live with 5 mph off :p

    Yes, this is correct.
I have 4.88 and tallish 34" tires, you guys and the 315's are running shortish 35's, they are pretty damn close in height.
My speedo is within a mile of being correct.
Being 5 mph off, You would need a 35 tooth. Each tooth is worth about 3mph difference.

That's about right, if not worse. I'd be indicating 90ish to actually be driving around 75.

I thought that was the case. Thanks for the confirmation.

I may look at a calibrator at some point, which may necessitate going back to the stock gear. But it isn't anywhere near a big deal right now.

You need a smaller gear for bigger tires on stock gears. I had a 28 tooth that worked perfect for 33s and 4.10s, and I think they go smaller than that.

    Factory gear is 30.

I was actually just referencing how far I am off now and it's a mild annoyance, I was hoping for being closer than this with 5.29's and a different speedo gear. I should have worded that better. :p

We should be damn near exactly the same since we're both on the same tire and the same size and eventually the same gears.

The joy of being slightly overgeared will far outweigh the annoyance of the off speedometer :D
