I haven't run the shields since my first ball joint incident.

Either kind of bolt torqued properly with blue loctite has worked perfectly for me.

Hell yes. If your LBJs have survived without them mine should be fine :D

    'Survived'

1 season on the current set and they have a touch of play.

    :p

Well, your use case is certainly more than a little more extreme than mine is, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

Hey Brenton, just to follow up on the coilover preload:

According to the instructions that came with the shocks, King states that for every 5 turns, the ride height is changed by roughly one inch.

Right now, my driver side has 13 threads showing so it’s around 2.5 inches from no preload. The passenger side has 11 threads showing, which supposedly equates to about 2.2 inches. That is actually a little more than I’d like, so I may dial them back to get about 1.5 passenger and 2.0 driver.

    Anyway, I hope that helps.

Your springs may not be at exactly zero preload when the collar is spun right to the end of the threads. Depends on the length of spring, length of shock, extended travel vs. non-extended travel, etc.
I want to say my ADS with 14" springs had a couple of turns at approximately no preload.

Exactly, and good catch. The starting point matters at first, but after that it’s just a delta from wherever you were previously when you’re adding or reducing ride height.

I think I might try spinning them back to see where they actually start loading the spring. I’m guessing that with my 14” coils, I’ll probably see something like what you described.

Eh. Leave them where you want them for lift. There's a lot of factors going on, like weight, I wouldn't worry about counting threads and what King says. As long as you don't experience coil bind you should be fine, and that would take a lot more preload.

I agree, just set them up for the amount of lift you want. Do you think your front end is too high Jason? I feel like my front never quite gets as high as I'd like to match the rear, despite having adjusted it a couple times. CV's are almost flat at ride height too.

I’m pretty cool with where they are now, to be honest. The front is a little bit higher than I’d like, especially when the truck is loaded up, but then again, I kept the preload the same going from 600 to 650 springs. If anything, I may go back to where I was on the driver side and just back the passenger side off a few turns to help with the taco lean. Even where they are now, the CVs aren’t in any danger, so it’s not a huge issue at all. Mostly just me wanting to dick around with them before I put them back on the truck

Oh yeah, forgot you had them out to do the gussets. Might as well screw around with them then, especially if you've got a spring compressor.

Got the passenger side reassembled. Hoping to get the driver side done tonight as well.

    Driver side is done!

Next up is the power steering cooler and filter. After that, I can fill the brakes and the PS fluid and bleed them.

    Almost there!!!

Exactly. I want this project done ASAP. My fiancée was just saying that she misses going for drives in it.

(She also really wants the driveway back )

@Squeaky Penguin, do you have any pics of your power steering cooler install? I searched your build thread and the BS thread, but didn’t see anything. Just wanted to see how you did yours.

Just pull the factory soft line that goes from above the passenger frame rail to the pump. Run new line from that hard line to the cooler, and then from the cooler to the reservoir.
