Running 35's on stock 97 Tacoma ?

The first thing it needs is a new clutch

 

Well a clutch and flywheel job is a perfect thing to start on to learn how to work on the truck. You can do the tranny and transfer case fluid at the same time.

Get an OEM kit, and download and read the factory service manual. Its stickied at the top of the forum. There are plenty of DIY links stickied too. Dont be paying someone to do it when you could learn something by doing it yourself and pay a fraction of the price.

 

Lmao make sure you've got someone experienced around before you try to drop that trans yourself. Replacing a clutch is a lot harder than lifting it 2.5 inches

 

If you haven't got a job yet then best bet would be to just get it driveable right now and drive it stock for awhile till you get everything together and figure out what Exactly you want to set it up with

 

Well my friend does work for everyone In my county and he's a got an 80s model Tacoma and his looks sick but I might do it my self I just want it done right and I'm only somewhat familiar with working on boats lol don't have a clue on trucks and what's an OEM kit

 

But yea it's drivable my dad drives it every day it's just got a crappy clutch also what brand tires should I get for it I'm gonna ride it on the road and off-road

Still, if his dad or a friend is there with a decent tool set, it would be a prefect first project for the truck.

 

OEM = factory Toyota parts. Don't buy an eBay or autozone special for something like a clutch. That really is a job you only want to do once.

 

I love my BFG km2 mud terrains. The ko2 all terrain is also a great tire. Couple of people I know run nitro's and have great results. Also, BFG is owned my Michelin so you'll pay a little more for them but they last long too

 

Yeah look up the aisin clutch kit from gripforce on eBay. He sells oem clutch kits then you just gotta get a flywheel

 

Keep the 31s. Your not old enough to drive, dont have a job, dont even own the truck yet and your wanting $3000 worth of stuff. Thats alot of money for a 15/16 year old to earn and save. Youl find those 31s on a small tacoma will get you to some pretty good places.

 

Also probably a good idea to just replace your slave cylinder and master cylinder so your whole clutch will be fresh and ready

I can't find a 3 in pro comp lift

I'm in the same place you are, my uncle recently gave me his 2006 2nd gen if I helped him with work on it and paid for everything on the truck myself (Could not have asked for a better Christmas present). But after I have done A TON of research this is the conclusion I have come to...

Me being a teenager I do not make a lot of money, but I don't want to go cheap on my truck, I want to make it last. So what I recommend is going the largest tire size you can fit under stock suspension without rub in an A/T or a M/T and maybe some nice aftermarket offroad wheels. Then focus on making your truck last and possibly run better like small engine, exhaust, etc. mods. Once you have saved up enough money buy a good 3" kit, I plan on going OME or Bilstein, then buy yourself some 33s or 35s. Some people have had to cut with 33s but others have gotten lucky, if you go 35s you will have to cut! Also regear!! You could buy the ring and pinion but those are a pain in the ass to install and it is usually more reliable to just buy the assembled 3rd member anyway and install it yourself if you or your friends habe the know-how.

This is justmy two cents being in a similar situation.

 

He can barely drive, in high school, no job, and is wanting to drop thousands of swag on his dads Tacoma. It needs to be said for his sake and the future young Tacoma owners that read this 100 years from now.

 

And also, another +1 on keeping 31s. I'm running 32s and I've yet to get stuck. And they have good road manners and don't affect power too much. Not to mention they're way cheaper.
