I’ve been trying to look up and down the internet and YouTube about info regarding CO2. Is it bad for your tires or does it cause them to degrade? Should you put regular air as soon as possible? Also is it better to run a name brand CO2 tank like PowerTank or make your own?

Why would you want it. Unless when you go to air down you want carbonate a keg in the bed of truck.

I'm sure you must have a typo.

    Co2? o_O

I'm pretty sure your intentions are compressed air or another tank prefilled with nitrogen.

CO2 is about 1.5 times heavier than air so no I wouldnt want to air up with CO2

I know this has been talked about for using co2 carts for cycling. It fills up the tire mo fast.

CO2 combines with water to form carbonic acid. My experience in using CO2 cartridges to air up bicycle tires has been negative. The cold seems to degrade the rubber near the valve stem.

Back in the day CO2 was great for mountain bike racing because the cart was lighter than a pump and the tire change was faster by a minute.

For a truck, nah. An air inflator is going to be your lightest and most reliable solution.

I had a 10lb CO2 tank with a 150psi fixed regulator on it I used to air up.

For years. Never made a difference, never hurt the tires.

Lightest yes. Most reliable? Not by a country mile. Tank, pressurized gas, mechanical regulator. There's almost nothing that can fail on a C02 tank aside from forgetting to have it filled.

CO2 tank setups are commonplace and work very well for a portable, fast air-up solution and the ability to run air tools as well.
I've used CO2 tank setups for the last 8 years and have not experienced any sort of negative effect on tires from its use. Go for it.

    Some benefits of CO2:
FAST! Air up a 35/37 in a minute and a half.
Far higher flow rate vs an OBA compressor. In fact, so much flow that it's possible to re-seat tire beads. I've done it.
Reasonable cost to piece together a setup
Can use it anywhere you can carry it, not tied down to a vehicle!
Can use it for multiple rigs- have 3 or 4 offroad rigs perhaps? No need to buy multiple compressor systems!
Very little to break or go wrong- A solid tank and a fixed PSI regulator should last a very long time

    Negatives:
Has a set capacity/volume- You can run out when you need it if you dont pay attention to tank levels
Has a tendency to get very cold from extended use- freeze up possible bot not too much of a worry IMO
The longer you use it the more it costs (refills)

Why? "Don't do it" isn't a very good reason when people have "been doing it" in the offroad community for decades without any adverse effects.

Make your own. Buy a regulator and a hose online, and find a good welding shop that does bottle exhanges. Airgas or something like that. Done and done.

Apparently you guys never heard about Powertank https://powertank.com/ People have been refilling off road tires using CO2/Carbon Dioxide for decades, no long term negative effects. It's a thing, it works great, it's not a stupid idea.
