All season/all weather tires are often described as being the worst of all worlds.

That being said, I've had pretty good success running all terrains. They aren't as good as a dedicated set of snow tires, but nothing will be.

They look like they’d do almost as good as a winter tire. Who knows about treadlife

Come to think of it, I've tried Nokian tires for summer tires on several vehicles now with bad luck. I just took the summer set off my wife's Audi Q5, put the winters on (Michelin x-ice) and she said "it's like driving a new car- please don't put those summer tires back on- get new ones." Terrible wear. I feel like Nokian should stick to winter tires! Hakapliitas are the best winter tire I've ever used.

All true. A season specific tire will perform at it's max best for that season over a "general purpose" all season tire that does a little of everything good, but not great.

This is the same with all terrains. It does a little bit of everything well, but not great. Though, like this tread has shown, sometimes their tire of choice has gotten them through all seasons just fine. At the end of day, it boils down to the level of reassurance you want.

I think for VA any of the AT tires will be fine. I've run Cooper AT3 for the last few years (about 50k by now) year round in MA and they've been fine, OK in the snow. Wildpeak AT3W are on order and will probably install after first real snow.
