Hello, first time posting on a forum.

I’m trying to install running off lights onto my taco. I’m running into problems with the wiring. Instead of tapping into the factory wires I chose to go the add a circuit route.

I connected the white wire( courtesy light) to the Dome fuse, the light turned on but stayed on. Even when I lock my truck.
Same as the parking lights, the red wire, I connected that into the d/l 20amp fuse, and nothing changed. The courtesy white light stays on.
I connected the yellow wire ( turn signals) into the ig1 no.1 slot and still just the courtesy light stays on.

I’ve removed all the connections and everything in the truck is back to normal.
    Am I doing this wrong?

Has anyone tried doing this or has some advice for me? I’m trying not to have to splice any wires.

    thank you.

This is the light I bought

Add-a-fuse to either PANEL or TAIL fuse.

Many of the lights in the Tacoma are ground-switched, meaning the on/off function is on the negative side, not the positive side.

because of this, fuse taps don’t work because they are always hot. That’s why your light is staying on.

It's the relay that provides the juice that most get incorrect. That is what gets ground "switched"...:burp:

Not gonna lie. I don’t really understand how to locate the wires by looking at that picture. Pretty embarrassing to say, but I haven’t tapped into any wires because I’m not confident that I have the correct one.

These are the left n right turn signal wires to the rear of the Tacoma.
If you remove the cubby on the driver's side, you'll see what the picture shows.

Thank you for your patience with me. I have tapped in to the correct turn signal wires.

I have not done the interior lighting yet as it has gotten dark.

Also, for the red wire, I used the add a circuit and tried both the tail and the panel and neither of them worked. Is there a wire that I can tap into?

I was very nervous to do my first two taps into factory wire lol was really edgy abt tapping the wrong wire, the guy at the auto shop quoted me $500 to redo some wiring harness.

    thanks again for your help.

The steering wheel light stalk (switch) must be set to parking lights for TAIL & Panel to be energized. Did you have the parking lights ON to test this?

The lights are working! Somewhat. My signals are working, and the drl / parking light is working, you are correct, I didn’t have the switch turned on, I thought they would come on automatically with the truck.

All in all, it is installed, and I will install the courtesy light into the a pillar in the morning.

thank you! I will take photos of the install and my wiring, once everything is complete

P.S. Pull the fuse for the cab illumination (courtesy) before you tap into the pillar wire.

I might’ve tapped in the wrong spot, but correct wire.

my running board leds stay on white, even when the truck is off.

was I supposed to tap in under the plug? Not above it..?

    thank you

    I had a brain fart.
Your light bar would need to have a separate ground (which it doesn't), so remove that tap.
You'll need to add a small relay to activate with cab illumination via a different wire.

No advice to offer but that’s a pretty cool idea. Good luck and post pics of it once you’ve got it working right.
