    Did I do it...
    I created it:transformer:
I have a write-up thread buried somewhere. Not hard at all. You have to tap 4 wires. (2 on the back of cig lighter, and 2 on back of ECT button) they are right next to each other. Took 2 minutes and 28 seconds.

IMO, to get the best mpg, one would need to cycle in and out of ECT when appropriate for varying conditions.

    and

You guys running big fat heavy wheel and tire combos probably DO need it on all the time whereas me, with my skinny SR5 rimz, can get more out of the engine without it, most of the time.

I use ECT anytime I'm driving where I will be speeding up and slowing down regularly. It keeps it from shifting to a higher gear too soon which kills smooth acceleration. It doesn't seem to do much when driving steady speed like on the freeway.

I've testing my mileage with and without ECT and noticed at most a 0.4 mpg drop when using ECT. This is based on full tank of gas testing, not the on board mpg calculator which I don't find that reliable.

Why not? It measures injector opening, injector pulses, and vehicle speed...throws it all into an equation and spits out real-time values. In this day of fast processors, it's not a difficult thing. Even if you doubt the actual values calculated, there's no real reason to argue against a relative increase or decrease.

Agree. But, I love leaving it on at all times except (1) when in traffic because you have a softer pedal and easier not to jerk and hit the brakes and (2) around town when you don't need the extra response. With that said it is a bit annoying to constantly hover at 2k RPM but such is the price.

Fooling with it more and more, I get the impression that VVT is part of the equation.

I have never used ect. When I'm getting ready to merge into traffic from the on ramp I tap the shifter into S mode, which shifts the trans into 4th, and away I go. Going up a long, not too steep incline, where the trans would shift a lot, I also use S mode. It stays locked in 4th until I get to the top. No problems with my AT, and I really enjoy using S mode.

S mode, just so we are clear, is nothing more than a gear limiter. It isn't a true manual selector nor is it a 'sport' mode. The transmission will shift through the gears normally until it reaches whichever gear you've selected.

Be it as it may, I still like using S mode. I'll be in 6th gear and need to speed up, so I put it in S mode and it shifts into 4th. if I want I'll pull the shifter back and it will go into 3rd or push it up to engage 5th & 6th. I feel like I'm actually doing something important.

    I second "Viva New Mexico"

It changes shift curves too and that's a fact.

So what happens if you use sport mode, and ECT simultaneously? Like, does that activate Ken Block mode?

After a year of driving my 2016, I've found that it's easiest to keep ECT off and have learned how the tranny shifts. You just gotta get used to the feel of how it shifts and put the pedal down a bit harder than you think you have to, but I've gotten used to it. I was using ECT when I first bought the truck cuz I just hated the transmission and how it seemed like it never was in the right gear. But it just took some getting used to is all. ECT is a bit too much for just driving around, it makes the pedal too touchy for acceleration. I don't know, just my two cents. Overall, though, I wish I bought the manual.

At first I had it on since driving it off the dealership lot-- but now I keep it off.

Definitely takes a hit on your MPG. Hopefully they find a tranny shift fix...

    My ECT is permanently on.

Shift kits are a wonderful thing.
