Agreed. It's like Airbus ECAM - there are millions of sensors on that machine, but they are not showed to the pilot unless there is a problem. In Tacoma the approach is more like Boeing Master Caution light: Engine Check light is like: something is f**ed up, better stop and figure it out. It is much better than constantly displaying tens of parameters that are within normal range.

Check your radiator fluid level (when cold). I've seen the overflow reservoir look normal, but the radiator not have adequate fluid.

Came back to ask if he ever got his scanner hooked up to see what the temperature was and it turns out the OP got banned

I noticed he made a for sale thread for his truck yesterday, it got deleted though. Probably what got him the ban since he has under 50 posts.

Curious why he decided to sell it all of the sudden

    Hey Eon,

Ya got banned for posting for sale without the 50 posts. It was my buddies truck I thought I would see if anyone on here was in the market sold now, and lesson learned.

So I got it plugged in and first test came back at 172 degrees and that was after driving for a while! then next time I plugged it in it was at 186. That number seems right on the money. Ill keep an eye on it and get some more tests but doesn't tell me much. No codes either I guess is always a good thing..

Good to be back. sorry if I broke the ruled and offended anyone

No worries, the mods are just strict with that rule because a lot of members on here have gotten burned/scammed by people in the past that joined solely to try and pocket people's money. It's nothing personal it's just a precaution they have to take to try and dissuade that from happening

Good to hear your temp is in the normal range, 172 is pretty low...if it stays there often I would be wondering if your thermostat is stuck or something. But 186 is right on the money, that's a good operating temp to have. If your dash gauge needle is over the middle mark but your temp reading is 186, it's safe to say your dash gauge needle is just a little off. But that isn't something to worry about imo

I second that. The range for testing the sender is quite wide, and sensors change with the age. So the only think that that high needle is hurting is the OCD of the driver. It did it to me to the point that I was very annoyed and replaced the sender, even I knew everything is all right.

Not sure if anybody mentioned this, check your transmission fluid. My 2000 4runner overheated, radiator empty, tranny fluid pink. AKA Pink Milkshake.
