I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma and the rear running lights and license plate lights are out. the brake lights do work. I have looked at the fuses and wire connections (connections in the fuse block as well) and look ok. what could cause this problem?

check for voltage at the tail light fuse, if not there, the tail light relay which supplies power to the tail light relay could be bad. the tail light relay is controled by the body ecu.

If you have a trailer light converter box another place that can cause problems
