Ok I tried to rear that other thread but it was a disaster. Ok here's my situation.

I have my 2000 2rz. It was from California meaning it has 2 cats. My problem is the cats have gone bad and I'm throwing a P0420 code. It wouldn't be a huge problem but a red CEL on a blue gauge cluster looks horrid and the truck is now getting a pathetic 16mpg city. I do not want to buy 2 new cats so I was wondering if I remove cat #2, gut the 1st cat, run a URD O2 simulator, and weld in a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler will the truck run good and will it be more efficient?

Well I know for a fact a 2rz should be getting 20mpg easily in the city. So what else should I look for to be sucking gas mileage?

o2 sensors will cause your truck to run rich, meaning it wont know how much fuel it is using. So it might try sending too much fuel when it really needs less.

Did you use Denso replacement sensors? I dont know the answer to your question, but your idea seems quite logical. Sucks having 2 cats!

I'm scheming of a similar plan. from my research using the search feature, the poor mpg's is attributed to a bad bank 1 sensor (the 'front') make sure you get the OEM Toyota (denso) replacement, don't buy a Bosch or any universal, word on the street is they're problematic. Do it right the first time.

I've got my new bank 1 waiting in my garage, but am waiting for my new front high-flow cat and URD sim to arrive before i get to work on it. Still can't decide if i'm going to put another high flow secondary cat in or just weld in a length of tube... I'll most likely just shell out for a secondary so i don't lose the low end too much. but idk... gdlk, if you do ditch 'em, let us all know how it turns out.
