    I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    You can say that CV Axle compresses inner and outer bearing , thus holding wheel bearing together. ;)

    Oh, I am confused. I am not saying you are wrong, only trying to understand. I thought the wheel bearings were a pressed in, sealed unit.

    They are pressed in and sealed. You press them over the wheel hub, but thats not permanent. What CV does it simply holds everything together.

    It is 100% correct that the splined stub of the outer CV joint and the axle nut are what hold the wheel bearing together. These wheel hubs are different then the older toyota IFS hubs, are now basically just a bigger version of a FWD car hub. The only way to do this would be to remove the joints from shafts and put the joints back in with no shafts, which would be silly, for the amount of work involved. It would make much more sense to do it once, and do it right.

    1. Kinda hard to replace the axles, break components, new wheel bearings, and install a lift kit by myself if I don't understand the front end of my truck. :cool:

    2. Go ahead and take your axles out and see how far you get. ;)

    Now thats a good idea, I never even thought of that when I f-ed mine up, the wheel side still has the axle nut/shaft on holding the damn wheel on the truck with more than the wheel bearing.

    3. EMPI has a good rep in the fwd world. I definitely would have got OEM axles until I saw the price. Plus now I can rebuild my OEM axles, having them as a backup and take my time with it because its a messy PITA job.

    Just noticed in your profile that you have a 6" lift,
    How long have you had that 6" fabtech kit on?
    I'd go thru the whole thing and check and re-torque everything

    Except that they are in. The spuds, anyway, which essentially act like a bolt holding your wheel bearing assembly, wheel, and tire to the spindle. Kind of important.

    Quite honestly, if someone has a crossmember I can weld in, I'll be LT in a month or so. I'm so sick of the DB lift.
