    Oh, ouch. What do you bust off? It almost looks like the TC actuator but that's on the back of the TC I believe.

    You've got some work to do to figure out exactly what happened. The fluid is one thing, but the u-joint dangling there without end caps is more concerning.

    Did you disassemble things or did you find it this way? Definitely get some better photos in the daylight.

    That I's the u joint at the tcase. Broke the actuator off the back of the tcase, luckily not the tcase itself.

    You're not the first to do that. I blame the non-greasable u-joints. How long have you been driving in 4wd?

    I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    His truck says 4wd so he has zerks to grease them. Looking at dry rusted u-joint I am guessing those Ujoints never got any grease.
    So now what is 5 minute job costing few pennies had turned into big job that will cost him $$$. Grease your U-joint folks :)

    Yep it's grease-able. Completely my fault. Here's new pics. The yoke is fine thankfully. Just the intermediate shaft and the tcase actuator.

    Yep,don't think has been greased very often. I though only 4X4s had fittings but my manual say the prerunner with the 2.7 has fittings also.Thats kinda weird.

    Well the stealership wants $840 for the actuator. I am picking up the other parts today for about $125.

    The problem with that is no salvage yards want to separate the actuator from the tcase.

    Can probably find an actuator + t-case for price of new actuator from dealership. Might as well have a spare for the same money, no?
