I thought so, so that means removing the bed would have to be removed to replace it? I sure hope I can avoid that.

Bed removal is not reqd but the tank has to be dropped. You should be able to take loose all connections by lowering the tank a little, the disconnecting, and then lowering the restof the way.

My experience is when the MAF is that bad, it will throw a P0171 code/CEL, though. No codes here is perplexing, so I venture it's something mechanical.

@05prerun82 do you remember having a CEL/trouble code when your MAF was dirty? I dont think i remember this happening, and it was pretty bad.

Either way, it's a good starting point, could be a $5 fix for some MAF cleaner

2004 was the last year any Tacoma had a factory-provided external fuel filter. My '04 Tacoma had one under the hood - drivers side near engine block - inline 4 cyl. The one in the photo mounted alongside drivers door frame rail may have been from a previous yr. or that's how they were mounted on the V6.

Boy...do I ever wish my 2015 V6 had an external fuel filter.

My 2000 V6 was on the driver frame rail. Loosen the gas cap to depressurize, remove the two fuel line banjo bolts then remove the clamp bolt and it's about as quick and easy as that.

I am cleaning the MAF and throttle body today (letting it dry while I type this) but the problem was resolved with two tanks of fuel injector cleaner.

The first one I added at the parts sore into about a 3/4 full tank. After a day I thought it seemed to make a difference. I put the other one in a 1/4 full tank and filled it, half a tank later all was well. I got and tried the STP super concentrated fuel injector cleaner because it was two for 6.99. It worked and yes I was surprised. I typically use the Techron product and have had good results. I also bought the liquid moly jetronic, which I will add next fill up.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
