Ummmm yes. That's why the gas stations have signs telling you to shut your vehicle off.

I don't do it, but i don't see how it can be bad, we drive in an out of the gas station, through it, start the vehicle at the pump, and there's no issues.

all your doing is putting gas down a tube into a big tank...

the big deal is that static is being created as the fuel flows. this static can build at the nozzle. you arent grounded because of rubber shoes. so you touch the nozzle it sparks and you have a show. as long as you hold onto the nozzle or keep touching the truck your ok.
as far as the fuel system goes, if your cap isn't secure properly it'll give you a check eng light. i'm assuming this would give you a light. but i dont know how long the truck has to be running and the cap loose.

Its probably more dangerous to use the cap to keep the fill going and getting back into your car. Thus creating the possibility of generating a static charge. So when you get out and grab the nozzel creating a spark and igniting the fumes around the fill hole.

fine, if you blow your own ass up..but kinda selfish even risking others..
doesnt matter if it is a real threat or not..

i shut the diesel off too, if it is next to a gas pump.

I say its no worse that the ones using the phone and fueling up. What about the people smoking in the same lot as you? I don't do it but couldn't care less if others did it. I understand all the possibilities but fail to see how it is any more dangerious than any of the things I have stated above.

Gasoline itself is not explosive (flammable yes), but gasoline vapors are extremely explosive and heavier than air. Outside those vapors stay close to the ground until dispersed by a breeze. So gasoline vapors would have to get high enough to be ignited by a spark somewhere on the truck. Not very likely. I would fuel up with the engine running if I needed to and not worry a bit. I mean has anyone seen a vehicle blow up at a gas station? Having said that, if you sit in the truck while fueling, ground yourself somewhere on the cab before touching the nozzle.

    stock, for now
    damn, wonder how that happened?!!

I also shut my truck and bike off when refueling. Last thing I need is to spill some gas on the hot engine of my bike and go boom.
