Ok so I was just driving my 99 4cylinder prerunner. I punched the gas and the tranny seemed to jump back a forth a lil bit...more than usual. After that, my truck has this terrible shudder at lower rpm's. Also, the check engine light is on. At higher rpm's the light begins to flash.

The taco is letting me down...What could this be?

um I don't know what the code is. I'll need to get a reader right?

I had to drive it around 40 miles after it started. I'll look into it further in a day or two. Thanks for the advice.

Simple check, open the air cleaner box and check the filter....a mouse chewed my brothers and the scraps from the critter chewing ended up on the maf sensor, caused the same problems.

I would say the mass air flow sensor. Are you running an aftermarket filter such as k&n? They usually mess them up. Happened twice on my 99.

All right, I called up the locas Napa and...they don't even have an obd scanner in the store.

I'll take a look at the air filter. No, I don't have an after market filter.

it's still possible for that to go bad with the age of the truck. keep us updated.

$37 later a local shop diagnosed it as needing new plug wires. I wasn't going to spend big bucks to have them do something simple like that so I will buy new wires and replace them tomorrow. I did, however, check the resistance on the wires. All but one were 0.xxx K. One read higher than 1.0 K. I sure hope that the problem is with the wires. If not I'm gonna be PO'd.

$39 for new Napa plug wires. Gonna install in a few minutes. This better work. I just did that test where you unplug each plug wire while the engine is running and cylinder 3 seems to be the problem.

All right, new plug wires was what it needed. I learned something out of this, and saved money by doing it myself. Now I'll know to check the plug wires if something isn't running right :D

    Thanks for the help guys.
