    Currently on side of road. If spare is p265/70r16 and on truck is lt265/75r16

    Will it damage the rear diff due to different tire size?

    Can't say for sure new tires would be 1" difference 1/2" on radius.
    I'd do it but be gentle and just get where you gotta go. I'm was in the same boat but got lucky and had no flats.

    You will be fine. Differentials are designed so wheels can turn at different speeds, that is required for a vehicle to corner. The outer wheel must make a longer arc than the inner wheel, so therefore the outer wheel will turn faster.

    Think about how many cars have 'doughnut' spare tires, and work fine.

    The diff wears faster. Rule of thumb is 1:100. e.g. Driving 100 miles with the mismatched tire size puts the equivalent of 10,000 miles' worth of wear on the diff. Factor this into your diff fluid change schedule.

    No Trac on 2005-2008 trucks. One fewer thing to disable. Just don't go into 4WD.

    pff... just lower the tire pressure on the taller tire to make it the similar height.... radius difference is all of half an inch... excess wear is not going to be of concern.

    Even 10,000 miles' worth of wear is not a concern for a diff that'll go 300-400k. However, lowering the tire pressure enough to drop half an inch will kill the tire pretty quick in highway driving.

    10,000 mile wear get real. as long a traction control is not kicking in you are good to go at any speed or distance.

    Ok. I'm just hoping the plug patch will fix it

    It's big o tires and I know anywhere near the sidewall is usually turned away. To me, although on top of tire this looks pretty bad.

    Only way they won't repair that is if it is only part of an extremely larger eye bolt or whatever it is. As long as it's a single hole puncture you should be fine.

    If it is a much longer or larger chunk below and it tore some belts or separated multiple plies in the footprint they might refuse repair.

    Looks relatively harmless from the picture though, but I've seen them look like that and then when pulling it out it turns into something unexpected.

    ^X2. Looks patchable. Looks like the tread block took the brunt of the damage.

    Think about it, the spider gears aren't rotating the majority of the time in normal driving (straight line). 10,000 miles' worth of wear is manageable, assuming OP even drives it for that long.

    Just take a good front tire and put it in place of the flat, and take the spare and put it up front. Not ideal, but then you wont worry about differing sizes.

    I just looked and his truck is 4x4. Not 100% on how diffs work so I really don't know.
