rust… is this normal?

    Yes that is normal, those are all untreated machined surfaces.

    No those spindles are solid forged steel...the frame is what you want to keep an eye on and/or undercoat or POR paint if you live in a snow or beach salt air state

    It might be normal on the machined surfaces, it is not normal on fasteners. These are supposed to be coated with a baked on zinc material to prevent rust. This is industry standard for all chassis fasteners.

    Look at the threads sticking out at the bottom of the picture right under the rusted machined surface. These threads look rusted. Probably not an issue, but might be difficult to take apart in the future if the need ever arises. (Not likely)
