Probably a lanolin based product such as Fluid Film or Woolwax. Its made from sheep wool and it straw colored.

Silicon islands, or exposed bare metal from them is what you are seeing. Silicon is added to the mig wire as a deoxidizor. It rises to the surface of the weld and forms a glass. Whatever company builds the frame isn't cleaning it off before coating. The coating comes off the silicon and/or the silicon chips off exposing the bare metal.

Mine looked the same on some frame welds. I live in the rust belt so imo, the sooner one can coat a frame while its still very clean the better. I did my last summer with cosmoline rp-342. Looked at it a couple weeks ago after being on good salty winter roads, still looks the same as last summer. This sure beats having to do it over every year with ff.

Heh, I think all these trucks do that that even in non-salt areas. I live in the rust belt and my truck with only 5K looks far worse than that even with frequent undercarriage washings after storms. My leaf springs are pretty damn crispy already...

I learned the same way with my tundra the first year i had it doing nothing but frequent washings. Yours sounds exactly the same. I made a religious commitment to use fluid film every fall on the chassis of this truck to stop the rust. E ben after 19 years and nearly 300k miles the frame was still decent, rusty but still solid. With hearing these new taco's still having rust issues from the dealer saying i have to take some responsibility for keeping these undercarriages rust free, i proceeded coating the frame as soon as i was able. We had a nastier than average winter with the salted roads, so i'm glad i didn't wait any longer.

Bought my truck December 20th of 2020 and a week after it was just storm after storm! Once the weather finally stays nice it's gonna get a full scrub down to prepare to apply Cosmoline. I did the Fluid Film on my 2nd gen and honestly it didn't hold up at all. Looking for a more permanent solution and I think it'll fit the bill.

Yeah the rust belt. I sprayed a lot with Fluid Film and it did good to prevent rust. Where it washed off bolt heads etc. I have orange and some crusty rust!
