Tacoma's should have a 5 year - Unlimited mileage warranty against corrosion perforation of sheet metal. i would go to the Toyota dealer and see what they have to say

That is the way out for manufacturers in many cases... Sometimes, it is bad but not fully perforated. We can fix it on your dime, but not rusted through. Come back when you can see daylight and we'll take a look.

By the time it is all the way through, the warranty for rust through has expired...

Not saying that is the case with Toyota. But, I've heard of that kind of response from other companies in the past.

At the same time you take it to the Toyota servce center I’d file a report with Toyota corporate also. It’s a case I’d think they’d be interested in reviewing for possible manufacturing defects. You may be “lucky” and they will take care of it for you. Good luck!

It is often the case when a business wants to keep costs down.

Two years ago, it was surprisingly easy to deal with.

I wonder if they will start a case without the dealership. I found a phone number, though I wish I could write them.

My ‘17 AC, Blower fan, and arctic White body repaint were all easy to get fixed through corporate.

Sounds like you were lucky on multiple occasions! Just call up Toyota USA?

That’s what I did- they set up the calls through service and fast tracked my approvals. But that’s because my dealer didn’t know how to handle it themselves and wanted me to wait.

others here have received good faith repairs from corporate even though they were out of warranty. It’s definitely worth talking to them.

As mentioned earlier that may be covered under a perforation warranty be sure to check that.
The windshield needs to come out to fix that properly. After the paint work is done a thin 1/2” strip of anti chip tape should go along that top edge before the windshield goes back in. Here in the salt belt I’ve seen quite a few stone chips (and bad windshield work) rust like that.
The truck is too new not to repair that properly.
