That's pretty substantial rust imo (live in Colorado so im kinda bias probably)
I'd still take it back to the dealer.

So, am I over reacting? I really don’t know what’s acceptable.

Meh, maybe not. But I wouldn’t worry to much about it. They might spray something on it.

    Thanks!

Yea I have no idea of what to expect. I’d think the paint would last a little more than 500 miles...

Hit it with a wire brush and spray your favorite black paint over it, problem solved.

I agree it would. But being as new as it is I’d like to not have to do that.

I would rely on Toyota's rust prevention package period. Toyota has never missed a beat when it comes to cutting corners in the area.

If you go complain at the Dealer they are simply going to spray paint over it and send you on your way, at least if you do it yourself you can take your time and remove the surface rust before you spray paint over it.

Ideally it probably should. But realistically it’s gonna happen fairly soon anyway. Like what was posted earlier. Get some paint for the future. I touch up mine from time to time.

Thanks for your response. Does painting it yourself void any warranties?

I’d think not, but if you have a dick dealership it might.

LOL Toyota has a solid reputation for rusting frames on Toyota Tacomas.

Class Action Lawsuit and all. They lost.

When your truck traveled on the train and shipped on the trucks they tie it down with chains and the frame gets scraped up, clean and paint it and you are good to go, no warranty issue.

In Toyota's case for the frame it's basically nothing but a spritz of Krylon in semi gloss while the frame internals are bare metal. We're now two generations into Tacoma frame rust and they still can't fix this problem.

It's in everyone's best interest to buy a case of 3M cavity wax and the wand kit and have at it.
