Dude I'm telling you as long as the total cost is under the ~$4k Toyota wants for a new one somebody will. Plus, I don't even think Toyota will sell the frames independently of the frame warranty program...at least not until it's over at the end of this year

But he works for Toyota lol. I might be wrong but I thought I heard that a normal everyday person can't just order one yet until they are done fulfilling the frame warranty replacements.

Caveat emptor and irrespective of what the dealer did, or didn't do, may or may not have known, most places have consumer protection legislation which would make it illegal to sell a vehicle in that condition.

I bet you could get it over there for like $500, then find someone who wants to ship something back here, and pay for your return trip.

You could be on that reality TV show where those people with trailers and 3500's bid on shipping weird stuff all over the country.

I don't have any experience with them. My truck was coated by Toyota several years ago and is holding up pretty well.

about to just say goodbye to trying to DD a tacoma. the difficulty in finding one + the frame issues are just a lot to try to handle.

Then the rest of the frame rots out too, so you start over.
    This.

Especially when there were claims that it was "fixed".

They're out there, you just need to be willing to travel. AZ and CA have plenty rust free trucks. Could easily be worth the $300 plane ticket.

We tried to help/warn you! I remember you asking about several 1st gens and each time we pointed out the rust or said check the frame. Sorry not trying to beat you up here but I'm surprised you ended up with one in this shape. Bummer man, give the dealer a call and let us know what they say.

Sounds like you've got an easy opportunity to get the word out about this shop then.

I don't care who you are, that's seriously screwed up to say the frame was fixed and then to see that rust hole 2 weeks later.

Take whatever excuse they give you with a grain of salt. If all they offer is excuses, and don't either 1) offer to refund 100% of your money or 2) offer to complete the repair, keep the truck, run away, and notify the authorities of the fraud.

That said, I'd still be skeptical of an offer from them to fix it. It's almost guaranteed all they'd do is slap a plate on teh outside and weld it and call it good. Ignoring that you need to actually cut out the rust and arrest any future rust, not just cover it up...

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I grew up in VA and I think the inspection cost $20 back then. The problem is a shop charges $90 an hour for that mechanic and to do the inspection correctly it takes an hour or so to do it. I used to benefit from some small shops where I would walk in and tell the owner of a small shop that I knew that everything was good and he would literally give me a new sticker and fill it in in his book and I would put $20 on his desk. They only make money if they spend 10 min with your vehicle. The issue is some small dealers do the same thing and have an arrangement with the inspecting station where that decal is more of a formality. That said you could swing by the local DMV or State Troopers office, show them when and where you purchased the truck, show them the damage and say you took the dealers word because it had a valid inspection and now you feel it is not road worthy. More than likely they will pull that shops licence for having issued that cert. If the dealer values the inspection station they have an arrangement with I would think it in there best interest to work with you to remedy this situation. My stance would be this in going back to the dealer that sold the truck. Let them know if they do not remedy the situation then you will be reporting it to the state. Might be worth while to swing by the inspecting shop prior to going to the dealer if you know who inspected it so the shop can throw a little heat on the dealer also. Just my prospective.

Yeah i am an idiot honestly, im not here to act like im not or anything - but that is just criminal! otherwise they did this trash paint job and oversprayed the entire frame so no one can see whats going on. The good news is its marketable even as is in my redneck area i live in. I paid for half the truck and came back 4 days later to buy it in full cash money ,(waited for rest to transfer from bank) and they said that it felt like "500 people had come in just that week to try to buy it".. so i dont know.

Whatever you do just please be sure to be up front and honest with anyone you try and sell it to...even if that person is uninformed about the Tacoma frame rust problems and doesn't bother to check for themselves. What that dealership did to you is downright wrong but sadly it's the kind of shitty thing that dealerships are known for.
