what CrispyTacoLover said... "I can’t wait for the dealer response to your “issue”."

The dealer response will be the highlight of this whole thread. I can only imagine. I get it, rust is bad and this is weird, but a dealer response will be hilarious.

I'm sure your truck is fine. It probably dripped down off of something during transport and dried in the bed.

Haha yeah, seen that before. Only good solution is to cut down every tree in a 1 mile radius of where you park.

I've got the stock tacoma tonneau cover, and i've had no rust or anything like that, but it doesn't leak either. Must be coming from the tonneau cover hardware, or somehow from the rear quarter panel steel skins.

The watery rust is coming from the bolt areas above.

Look close at the first red-circled area in Post #45. You can clearly see stains down the side of the bed from the bolt area. That runoff overflows the first narrow "shelf", then floods the bed floor.

If you pierce the factory paint down to metal in any way (scratch, drilled hole, rubbing, etc.) it will rust unless properly sealed.

Don't stress yourself out. Just clean it. It's not from your tuck. Don't waste your time by going to the dealer.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
You guys are all looking in the wrong place… it’s clearly coming from the rusting frame. The rust transitions through the composite bed via the 6 bolts from galvanic corrosion and then spreads in the bed by electrolysis. It’s not going to come clean because it’s embedded into the bed material. You need to have Toyota replace the frame to stop it…tell them you know about the frame rust TSB and they’ll hook you up.

My bed has some sort of chalky-rust going on. Its rust except that it's not red. Happens every time I go camping, and takes minutes out of my day to wash off. :annoyed:

I can't believe such a cheap flaw in my nearly $30,000 truck.

Has anyone done the sacrificial marine anode mod yet? I feel like lining the bed with zinc plates should have come from the factory, but here we are. How many and what locations to install anti-corrosion anodes?

Apparently a salt water wash will take care of that.

Look at the hardware that holds down the tonneau to the rail. Mine rusted a bit because the rubber washer didn't seal between the tonneau and the bolt flange.

Its as plain as day the rust is coming from the bed cover's brackets and bolts. Wash it out and call it the day. Spray some clear coating or rust preventative on it. You're making too much out of it.

who added the other rail under the OEM probably used non stainless hardware. Take each one out and make sure all is stainless, even the washers.

i don't think the rust is from your bed. it's from something else. like something you park near. either that or the aftermarket rail you installed. never had rust in my bed but i don't have that thing you installed.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I have a cap on mine and the inside of the bed looks similar (no drilling ever).

Prove that it's rust and not just road dust captured in the bed. Then address it.
