Got my annual inspection today. And discovered that after doing everything right and taking care of the last thing i bought with my father. I have to either pay 10k or junk it. Can't in good conscience trade it or sell it.

Called dealership and they would be more then happy to order me a frame but it ain't covered under the recall, call corporate if you want.

Called corporate Ave was told due to the settlement they are not required to do anything either.

    Any thoughts. 20220309_094029.jpg 20220309_094036.jpg

It's not the end of the world. Do a search and check out some of the recent threads similar to yours where folks had those exact same rusted sections of their frames cut out & replaced.

Take it from a 1st gen owner(x2), that truck is just hitting puberty and getting a little acne. Got a long life ahead!

Find a good welder/fabricator in your area and have it cut out and patched.
the overall condition of the rest of it doesn't look too bad based on the limited pictures you posted.

I'd patch it and keep on driving it. What does the rest of the frame look like?

Some of this Some of that
Is that the area under the ac drain? I’ve heard of that spot rusting out locally, have the rest of the frame inspected. If the rust is only in that area I’d have it welded up by a local fabrication shop. They can easily plate the area with 1/4 steel and you’ll get many many more years out of the thing

Like others are saying, if there are only a few spots then have someone patch it.

That frame looks pretty good other than the giant hole in it. Just plate it. I have one truck that is so rusty you cant even weld to it. I just used gorilla glue when I want to add metal to it.

Neither in a good area for welds. Especially do to the stain of the arms connecting directly on the other side of the frame in both spots.
Your right about the patches being the only option though.

Since the class action toyota is able to wipe their hands of all trucks created prior to 3/9/2010. By saying, "due to the court order legally I can't help you, oh but yes we know it is a manufacturer defect.".

A good welding shop will make short work of that. Patch it and keep on riding.

Due to the sentimental value of the truck, plus today's vehicle prices. I'd say, if you can afford it, spend the 10 grand. Or if it's feasible to have frame sections replaced, do that
That way you won't have the regrets of getting rid of it, and in today's market its a "relatively" cheaper solution.

That's just my 2 cents though.

    Good luck

Mine was exactly the same its right beside where the exhaust is close to the frame/catalytic converters. You have to take your exhaust off to get to it all and just hammer and cut the rot. I had my friend weld in a patch/1/4 inch plate steel. paint it with some rust preventitive and then fluid film everything metal under the truck. I just fixed mine last week. On mine the rest of the frame around the rot was still very good. Top bottom and opposite side of the boxed in part were good just the same spot you have rotted. I was sick when I saw mine but it is fixable and there is a company that makes the patch if you want to buy it.Tacoma 2005-2015 Access Cab 2nd Gen Archives - autorust.com
