RUST Lower control arms

I have a 2018 tacoma with 9,000 miles and I noticed the other day after washing the truck the rust spot on both sides. Does anyone else have the same issue?

Surface rust at the welds. Normal

 

That’s not a crossmember. That’s a lower control arm. If it bothers you just use some sand paper and black primer paint over it .
I wouldn’t even worry about that.


I would be more worried about that fragile ass lower ball joint mount. God every time I see it it makes me curse Toyota engineers. Uniball LCA all the way !

 

While common for tacomas, it still recommended that you address it ASAP. Being in the north east, winter driving isn’t going to be kind and those small rust spots will grow to a much more concerning issue if not treated.

Clean and paint. Or if you are in salt country, the whole undercarriage needs to be treated anyway, including the LCAs.

 

My Taco had it. My Tundra has it. Ground and painted, then woolwaxed the whole underside for the winter salt bs. Rust happens, get it before it spreads.

 

Thats just the beginning. There will be more to match it soon. Lucky you live in Maryland instead of the Mid West.

 

And only Fridays allow a Bump 7 minutes after starting the thread lol

 

Might as well get a new truck over that rust!

 

Uh oh .... now you have an excuse to buy a set of dirt king lcas

 

Or... you can waste even more money and get the camburg LCA. The burglars run uniball inner pivots. If you look at that cup and welded overlay wrap it will make you realize why they also build trophy trucks .

and before some total chaos or garage fab.com rep say mehhhh frame vibration , corrosion , bleh bleh , poly urethane , bleh delrin just as stong , I say , race car parts require race car care ?

 

That is nothing. Try living on the coast.

 

Fluid film. Live near the beach, drive through salt water and salt spray several times a week.

 

That looks so clean for a truck that's located in Hawaii
