good thing you don't live in the rust belt, but as mentioned above a good cleaning and some paint and it is good as new.
there does seem to be some sand and such in the caliper, but a good rinse with the wheels off would take care of most, and maybe hit id with some brake parts cleaner...

Wire wheel, hit the bolts with some fluid film or equivalent, you can wire wheel the calipers, and call it a day. Wash it off much better next time.

I second this your shop is just trying to scare you into getting additional work done that you don't need..

your fine, just normal surface rust. Nothing is going to fail or break because of surface corrosion.

Would I wire brush it then spray fluid film on it? Or vice versa? Is WD40 safe to use or would it cause a bolt to loosen?

Spray the wd40 on first to loosen up the rust, then agitate with a wire brush and then hose off with brake cleaner. Yes its all perfectly safe on the rubber boots, no it wont loosen any bolts. Theres a cotter pin in there to prevent that from happening.

Man some southern guys must not know what "normal" rust looks like, or they just trying to rip ya off. Some of the vehicles up here look like science experiments underneath.

You will be fine like others have said spend some winters in the NE and you will will see some real rust. I live on the coast so not only do they salt the crap out of the roads we are surrounded by salt water on three sides. I honestly have never hosed my truck off after going on the beach or launching the boat at the ramp just drive through some puddles you will be fine.

Looks like your shop is trying to take you for a "ride". It would take an honest shop a whole 5 min to clean that off, then give you a 5 min lecture on how to keep it clean and earn some honesty points. Change your shop.

Fluid film your entire truck except for the brake components. That rust is minor nothing to worry about.

Wow- I feel bad for the original poster. They sensed that he wasn't experienced or knowledgeable, and they tried to take advantage of him by scaring him in to needlessly spending money. Wow- what a horrible shop. This is why I don't trust repair shops.

Where I live, salt is used on the roads for about 5-6 months (November-April) to keep them clear of ice and snow. Rust like that is expected and completely normal up here.

Kudos to those that gave this guy good advice and helped him see through the BS that the repair shop was feeding him.

    Lots, straight from the factory.
Looking at the pics and the rust... Find a new shop. Don’t have them fix anything. Pay them their diagnosis fee and run. They are trying to scare money from your wallet.
I am new to the Tacoma, but have been modding cars forever. Nothing looks like it’s in need of replacement right away. The tie rods may need to be checked again in the future.
The comment about the calipers seizing in the next year is crap. Yes, a caliper may seize. The odds of it happening to yours isn’t much different than it happening to mine.

Find a new shop with honest people.
