I noticed some rust on the rear driver side brake drum and a little on the rear passenger as well. I bought the truck in May, don’t live near the ocean and haven’t had it in any water. Anyone else have this problem? I will be going in for my 10,000 mile soon and was going to have the dealer check it out.

I think you'll find that that is a common problem on brake drums. You may want to paint them with some better paint than the factory uses.

Before you paint them lightly sand them and treat them with rust restorer, then paint with high temp paint.

Drums are completely untreated, so very proned to rust. High moisture in the air is enough for them to rust. You could paint them, or apply a thin coat of rust check to them. Spray it on a rag, then carefully wipe it on the drum.

Question why worry about it? High temps will keep it to a minimum and all drums rust? Doesn't effect performance of the brakes. Just my two cents.

The rust on my 2nd gen frame is where the welds are.

I'm still waiting on the galvanized frames, I think it would still rust. That should get the manufacturer a trophy every year.

Rust=metal herpes. Your truck has a herpe and it WILL spread. The good news is that it will have to jump to the brake pad to get to your truck.

I live 75 yards from the central Pacific ocean. No rust yet ...Certainly not like yours. It looks like some paint might have chipped loose
