Hey guys, I hate that I only come here when I have a problem, but alas here I am. A month or two ago my less than one year old Tacoma with about 8500 miles had a pretty alarming rust spot on the drivers door jam, see pics. I wiped away the surface rust (pic 3) and as you can see there were still bubbles and a crack in the paint. My dealership agreed it needed to be taken care of, and they did. I got the truck back and it looked fine. Out of curiosity a month or so later I pulled up the plastic cover thing and weather strip and saw two or three more little rust spots. Also the three fabric staples are rusted. Obviously moisture is getting in or had gotten in and did some damage. My concern is that there is much more severe rust where we cannot see on the other side of the body area where you can see it forming again, the guy at the dealership agreed. The dealership took pics and is sending them to Toyota Warranty and I asked realistically what the solution will be here if they agree that the problem needs to be addressed. The guy told me theyd probably have to cut off that section of the trucks body and weld in a new piece. I obviously don't want my still brand new feeling one year old 9500 mile truck to undergo such a surgery so I was just wondering what yall think I should do? Is this starting to touch on Lemon Law status as I bought it brand new just a little over one year ago now? Seems silly to replace an entire truck because of that little rust area but I think it's only going to get worse and dont want them cutting it up....Any suggestions at all?

I don't think this is normal.... have you bring your truck back to the dealer?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the word "HELP" in the title is reserved for emergencies (ie rolled over on a trail) and should not be used in this context. I'd advise you change the title.

Also, as I understand it, Lemon Laws apply to safety issues... not aesthetics.

Not really much "help" we can provide, other than referring you to the search function for posts with users having similar issues.

I believe this has been a issue especially with Quicksand trucks. Mine has rust spots in same area. I am going to let it go for a bit longer so it looks terrible enough for the dealer to say yes that is a warranty problem.

Yeah but how do they take care of that? He suggested cutting the body and welding a new body section on. Of course it's under warranty

If someone rolled over on a trail I'm assuming the only help they can get is from people within a few miles....not really a guy on the internet a thousand miles away, also would the make/model and generation be relevant? Sorry if I offended you with my title

WTF..... cut the body out and weld a new body again? That's what the dealer suggested? Try another dealer may be.

If it is strictly surface rust then I would not think they would have to replace any metal.

Actually, there have been successful cases on here, where individuals have been stuck and recovered by a member who was nearby and saw the post. I'm not offended, just informing you of forum rules.

They got rid of the surface rust that they could see and the last two pictures show what I saw a month after the fact, it's back, coming from the other side of the body that we cant and wont be able to see...

my 05 has less body rust. If the dealer doesn't fix that I would be pretty surprised

it looks like where the rocker panel and the front column are welded together water has obviously gotten in there somehow and more than likely it will need cut out or blasted and re-welded then repainted, either way if they don't get the underlying reason, it will come back and need fixed again. The one pic looks like water under the front carpeting which may be the issue? but that will obviously be covered under warranty.
