If OP is in Jupiter, MN, then launching boats into salt water is unlikely. But road salt could be horrendous - according to Google Maps, the town is just 30 mi south of the border to Manitoba.

Yep , never rinsing the undercarriage in those conditions would be bad news

If you plan on keeping the truck for another 7 years, I'd look into doing something about it. If you aren't up for doing it yourself, I'm sure there are places near you that would sand blast and undercoat the frame.

Live in Jupiter FL, but this truck was used in Reading, MA never in FL. Reading is not too far from the ocean, but also not anywhere near where I have to worry about salty air corroding stuff.

Has it ever been washed? If you live in FL, does that mean the truck sits for months on end, possibly in a high humidity environment?

When my fiance and I were looking at Rav4's, we came across a 2007 that only had 30k miles on it and it looked just as bad as yours underneath so it's not unheard of. Again though, if you plan on keeping it for a long time, now's the time to do something about it.

The stint in Reading, MA probably did most of the corrosion damage.

You have way more rust then I had on my 1999 Tacoma that had 240,000 miles that Toyota said failed the frame rust inspection. They bought it back from me last month. I wish I had taken pictures of it before I let them take it.

Can't wait until they make cars entirely out of composites. I for one won't miss metal. ;)

Either that or when the car manufacturers stop playing cheap and put a suitable coating on the frames!

They should coat the frames in whatever that rubber shit is in the LCA bushings. A couple of us have established that it is indestructible during a bushing replacement

This is no way looks right. That looks like it is from a Model T that has been sitting in a field!

I have a 56 Chevy step side with less rust on it.

Good luck with the dealership. Will be interested to see what they say when they actually set eyes on it.

true but i am sure its way better than most ofwhat is available out there. I seen an old land rover 65 or something that was pretty much shot due to rust but the frame which was galvanized looked pretty good.

Mine is just as bad but only on the frame. None of my shocks looked that bad just or other odds and ends on the vehicle.

I contacted toyota and was told to fuck off multiple times when I have called. Stated no open recalls and that they do not know of any issues. Complete horseshit again.

I know my truck came from Wisconsin originally and has lived the last three years in Illinois. I know there will be some rust but not the whole frame. It stains my driveway if I park my truck outside when it rains.

The coating they used on the frames is horseshit. I have had other trucks and vehicles and never had an issue as such. The paint/coating almost breeds rust. It gets a nick in the finish, then water gets behind it and then the rust breeds.

The other reason some people have alot of rust on a frame is if you park over gravel or dirt/earth and not a finished driveway.

I was at a dealer where a friend is a tech and he is told to not even point out problems on peoples vehicles since toyota does not want to provide warranty work unless the customer notices. I was looking at the newest model sienna that has been out less than a year with the undercarriage covered in oil and he was told not to mention it.

Toyota is getting to be horrible on standing behind their product.

As you can see by my screen name heading I picked I strongly feel this way. I have the extended platinum warranty through toyota and anytime you go in there it is like pulling teeth and they want to state it is normal/nothing wrong or my fault. They also want to charge a diagnostic fee when you go in telling them what is wrong and my deductible is 0$
