I need to vent! I just bought my truck three weeks ago and it only had 13 miles on it. I walked out of my garage yesterday to head out for dinner and something on my bumper caught my eye . . . RUST!!! Right on the edge of the bumper on both sides rust is starting to show already. Is anyone else having this problem? I wanted to go back to the dealer today and show them but my dad recommended waiting until things start to thaw that way if they give me a new bumper I will have it for summer and I can have the truck undercoated and rust proofed. Any advice?

I feel your pain. I have had my 2011 for 3 months as of today and my rear chrome bumper has rust on it also. I want them to change it out for the black painted. I don't want to just get another chrome and have it rust again.

You are not the only one experiencing this, there are other threads regarding the rust bumber. My truck is just over year old (2 winter) I decided I would wait until after the winter to address it, although I did mention it on my first oil change.

I also had mine replaced a few months after purchase, back in 2007.

No trouble getting dealer to replace, but I can't believe Toyota hasn't resolved this issue yet.

Have you asked the dealer about getting the black bumper opposed to another chrome one? I think i would like the painted one better since my truck is magnetic grey

I have already called them about it. I am going to try to convince them that if they put a black painted on, then they will nit have to replace it again in another 3 months.

Not really, i brought the truck in for the first oil change. I showed them the bumper i think it was the service manager came to look at, he said we'll order you a new bumper no question. I haven't had a real good look at the new one the put on lately. I need to do that.

I'm pissed also. My 2010 is 13 months old (the bumper was replaced 11 months ago due to a wreck). Yesterday I did a A+ wash job and noticed this. I used some Eagle-One Never Dull and it cleaned up perfect but this is totally unacceptable. I question Toyota's quality again.

Happened to my 07. I would wait until your close to the warranty expiration and then hit them up for a new BLACK bumper. I found out the black bumper is actually cheaper for the dealer than a chrome one. Also right after they replaced mine (with a chrome bumper, I wasn't smart enough the first time to ask for black) my "new" bumper lasted one winter before it started to rust.

Rust on my 09 after the first winter. This spring (after 2 winters) I'll have them fix or replace it. Really pissed me off when I noticed it last year.

The Toyota rear bumpers suck chrome or painted, they all rust. I changed both of my toys rear bumpers 89 and 03 after a few years of having the trucks. so far the 03 is lasting the longest. I coated the inside with rustoleum paint.

yea if you purchase a new truck you should not have to replace body parts after 6 months, it's poor quality on Toyota's part. These bumpers have been rusting out for years. it's nothing new for Toyota.

I say have them replace it for free, but don't think is not going to rust again unless you coat the inside or keep an eye on it.

Truck has 3000 miles on it. I have small amount of rust on rear bumper I have the TRD cat back exhaust and the tip is starting to rust. While I'm on my rant I also have the steering issue over uneven terrain and the fan chirp on low. My buddy put some ski poles in the cab and they scraped the plastic on the door, I watched him they barely scraped I didn't think anything of it. well I got home and unloaded the truck and I have a big old scar on the door now. Psyched to look at it for the next 5 years or so.
The dealer is fighting me on the steering TSB I had to go to Kinkos and print it out to give to them and they are still fighting it.
So I agree Toyota initial quality sucks! I love the truck just really bummed out by Toyota quality.
