Rust on my roof 2019

So I was washing off all the ash off my truck due to the fires in CA. I noticed a small chip and what looks to be rust. My truck is 2019 Cement. Is this a major issue and is this covered by the dealership/warranty??

 

Nope, not covered by warranty or dealer unless you got rock chip protection.

 

What should I do to prevent it from spreading? Is this common? Is every paint chipping to rust?

 

Yes. Especially more near the coast. First is to address the rust, then cover it with touch up paint.
Not sure how to address the rust without messing up the surrounding area too. You don't just want to leave the rust and use touch up paint on it.

Use a sanding pen to take the rust off within the chip (Amazon $8). Stay within the chip because it will scratch the paint around the chip. Then go to your dealer and get OEM touch up paint so that it matches.
5 min job.

 

Might be a good idea when the paint issue is fixed is to have a good ceramic coating applied to the truck. I think it will help in the long run.

Warranty is for manufacturer defects, that is damaged, any vehicle made of steel will rust when paint is compromised

 

You have a chip down to metal. It gets wet. You have surface rust. Clean the spot with a fiberglass pen. Drip touch up on it. Done. I thought I was nuts but you have me beat!!
