I think it is because undercoating inevitably cracks, then becomes a water trap, not barrier.

You can put me down as a Fluid Film convert. I saturated my '13 right after I got it home and reapplied heavy coats every fall. I went through 4 New England winters and still had a jet black frame.

I don't know how it would have done as far as preventing the boxed area from rotting from the inside out but at least the points that were covered with FF had no issues. I did saturate inside the box area.

I will admit it was an absolute mess working on the truck with the FF applied. I did a lift last summer and everything I touched was covered in a layer of goo. That being said, I didn't have a single bolt that broke or I had to torch out. I did have air tools, but everything went very smooth.

I would recommend doing it on the grass if possible. It will make moving around easier as will clean up from the inevitable over spray. My only regret will Fluid Film, is not applying it when I first purchased my Tacoma.

Thats a pretty good idea, dupont makes a great teflon wax spray, problem is its designed to fall away when it gets a hold of dirt so i cant imagine it lasting too long. My subaru had some crazy thick black stuff thats all over the under body, not sure what it is but i think all manufacturers should use it.

I am a big Waxoyl fan.

I have half a mind to have my frame removed, galvanized, and reinstalled if I could find someone to do it for book rate.

In the manual, it states that the Tacoma does not need any additional rust proofing, as it is designed for rust and corrosion free performance. On the other hand, I just sanded and sprayed rust reformer on 7 different spots on my 2 month old truck lol. For spot treatment, Rustoleum Automotive Rust Reformer works great.

Question on the FF, I've read that it can remove the paint off some manufacturers paint on the frame, ever have any issues with paint removal on toyotas when using this stuff?

No issues at all for me. I use it almost everywhere. A couple friends of mine have a gen1 and gen2 Tacoma. I took a good look at where those rusted and then tried to fluid film all those places on mine. I sprayed under the hood, the chassis, in the bumper and tow hitch, all around the tailgate and bolts in the bed of the truck, I even hit all the bolts and latches which open/close the doors/hood/tailgate.

When I traded in my 2014 there was another 2014 in the used car section. I used the fact that mine had no rust to get more money for the trade. The other 2014 looked pretty bad with regards to rust compared to mine. Mine looked almost new because of the FF.

Ok, thanks. I'll have to get some, as I don't want a rust bucket either!
