Just got back from the Toyota dealership. Took my truck in a few hours ago. They found a hole in the frame. They say it will take 6-8 weeks for all the parts to get in and a few days for the labor. New frame, new control arms, all new brake lines, new leaf springs... a LOT of new parts. Total comes to around $15000! More than my truck is worth. They're not doing buy backs like they did in the last major frame rust problem on the first gens.

So, for the next 2 months, my rental car is a Prius. :(

I'm not a macho asshole, but I really do feel kind of embarrassed driving it.

Anyone else getting/got their frame replaced?

    I feel for you man.
There have been a few other post on here with people that had the frame recalls done.

But I would NOT be happy about having it done.
It's rare that it all goes back together the way it came from the factory.

I hope it all goes GREAT for you.
I'd be nervous the whole time they had it.

I'm already nervous and they haven't even done anything to it yet.

I would not be that nervous man. It will come with a warranty on the frame and I would even go in and ask them to take pictures of the progress.

Hell no, you bought a truck and it's coming up on winter. I know I would demand a Tacoma for a rental, I haul too much not to have a truck, plus I'm in Pittsburgh and need 4wd in winter (there's no flat ground here).

hey, awesome to see you're from cleveland. i've seen a couple of modified tacomas around, but not too many. the frame replacement is going... okay, i guess. i have a rav4 rental now rather than the prius i first got. they told me it would take 6-8 weeks and it's been about 7 weeks with no word yet from the frame manufacturer when the dealership (motorcars cleveland heights) will get the shipment in. i'm starting to experience withdrawals. need my truck back asap!

I had my frame replaced on my 06 months ago, dropped it off on Tuesday and was ready on Friday even had pics of the process, I made them give me a new 4Runner as my loaner, Loved it now I want one lol... But it was nice brand new everything, rides like new truck plus had new 5100's installed for free at all four corners... They had six more to do after mine techs told me... Glad I got mine done early, sounds like it's taking even longer now to get frames...

What years are the frame recall for? My truck is a 2009 base regular cab, long bed that originally came out of Virginia.

I don't get how dealers get away w this. You bring them a TRUCK and in keeping up their end of the agreement for a loaner vehicle they replace it w a Prius?! That's flat out ridiculous.

Same crap happened when I brought my ranger in for multiple big warranty repairs. They gave me a focus.

Reinstallation of the new parts shouldn't be an issue. They should have given you a tacoma, 4 runner, tundra, especially if it inconvienences you. If you happened to hunt or use your truck to make a living how are you going to haul dogs, guns, a dead carcass, lumber, ladders, a mower, or a boat down a washboard rutted fire road in a friggin Prius? This is toyotas frame problem not yours. You're a better customer than I.

Does the recall extend to Utah? My buddy bought an 06, it has a pretty rusty frame.

Its perfectly legal and acceptable. Did you want them to give you a handy too? Some people just think they deserve way too much.
