Like I have said before, I would love to be able to keep this truck forever, but its just not built well. Toyota has really fallen off. Should ha e kept building them in Japan.

I have a '10 that has substantial surface rust but no serious perforations as of now. I missed the frame inspection previously b/c I am located in NC which was not covered....even though my truck was originally from the TN mountains and likely subjected to lots of brine/salt. Very frustrating

As a northern climate dweller in the salt/sand environment I've paid for rust proofing (Krown) for the first 3 years - they missed a few spots and so I've continued to do it on my own. Sure I'm not getting in the doors but those contained area don't need it as much and maybe I'll pay them in a year or two to redo it "professionally"

Folks just rust proof your own trucks - it's not a hard concept - Krown, Fluid Fims, Amsoil Metal Protectant, any oil based sprays work. Apply in fall and if you are ambitious spring but I never have and my truck has extremely extremely little rust - 99% of frame is rust free and that's even in high sand/saltwater splash areas. Even if there's a bit of surface rust just spray with your oiled rust protectant and it won't get worse I promise.

I doubt Toyota will reimburse me for anything, maybe the first professional Krown treatments but folks don't ever "wait" - I do not want them ever taking apart my truck for a new frame - I'd cringe at all the rattles/squeaks afterward.

And remember it's not a ultra rare 1/4000 made, nothing lasts forever.

I'd reckon you are correct. My '10 was bought by me used in October 2012 as a certified. I live in MA and believe me we get rust up here..my wife's '96 was bought back in April 2009 as one of the first in the state to be inspected and failed.

Have you noticed any rust on yours? I don't think I've ever noticed rust on any vehicle I've had and I've lived here 38 years.

Good news. Also, if you do head up to Big Bear, they use sand instead of salt.
