Has anyone noticed any rust spots on their frames? I have some surface rust on the plates that are welded to the frame rails.

There is a thread on this. but the consensus was its just a part of the welding process if I remember correctly..

Hit the whole frame with fluid film now.

How many cans of fluid film will it take to coat the whole frame?

Fluid Film is a good product, but it is sticky and will encourage sand, dust, etc. to collect onto the surface. If you live in an area where rust is a reality,...I'm in Michigan,...I am well aware of how the underside of the vehicle can get nasty and rust. Personally, I have a regimen of getting under the vehicle in the early Spring and early Fall and doing rust repair. I have found wheel paint (polyurethane-based) works well to coat the frame, parts, fasteners, etc. I use the black and then top coat with the gloss. It really looks nice when it is finished. The exhaust system can be painted with a high-temp header paint,...this will significantly reduce the rust on your exhaust system. I also coat my brake calipers/drums with high-temp caliper paint. The unfortunate reality is that rust cannot be stopped,...but it can be significantly slowed down. My '06 4Runner was in the shop today having the front brake calipers replaced,...from what I understand from the shop owner, it gathered a handful of mechanics to admire the underside of the vehicle,...and if you've ever had to work on a rusty vehicle, you know full well what a PITA every nut and bolt is to remove,...mine was like new even after 10yrs and 135K.

You can have the whole truck treated at Krown rust proofing for less than 10 cans of Fluid Film. $139 for a double cab.

LOL. Who said he was looking for issues?

Aren't you the one that was gonna trade your truck out and disavow Toyota forever over a whistle noise? So someone asking about what looks like a rust spot on the frame enjoys the truck less and is looking for issues more than someone who is wound up over a noise caused by air flow? Did you hit your head or forget your meds?

    10 cans?
It only took me 3 (inside and out) last fall and it still looks brand new.
    Want a pic?
