Got a 2018, just detailed it and noticed two small (maybe 2mm diameter) rust spots on hood and maybe a 5mm diameter rust spot on C pillar.

I generally detail (wash/wax) every 2-3 months but I recently moved to Pennsylvania where they use hydrochloric acid on the roads (pretty sure, not 100% tho).

How can I fix it? I can attach pics tomorrow. I understand the truck is 4 years old, but wtf.

Rock chips. The rocks are covered in all the hydrochloric acid.

I'm guessing the hydrochloric acid comment was a joke.

I also live in PA. I had some "rust" that came off when I clay barred. Also Iron-X as previously stated. I have no idea if mine issue was rust, or just some other weird discoloration.

Paint does not form rust (iron oxide). Your paint was either removed by a rock or other hard object or something splashed on your truck and stained the paint. Either way it’s likely not a manufacturing defect. Can’t say more without pics and/or more info. If that is the worse blemish you have on your truck after 4 years, consider yourself lucky.

I hope the comment about hydrochloric acid was a joke.

I'm pretty sure Iron X and the iron contamination removers specifically state they should not be used on bare steel. A product like Evaporust will remove the rust. If that is all you are trying to do. A rust converter product will convert the rust and the non-rusted surface iron to a more stabile form of iron oxide, that can then be top coated with touch-up paint. Post this question on the Official Ask A Detailer thread and I'm sure you will get some additional information.

Yes, it was a joke. Poorly relayed. I don't know what they use on the roads, nor care to look up the chemical composition. All I know is I will be driving my beater for the rest of the winters I live here.

The most popular road deicer across the country is salt, aka sodium chloride. It’s not yet clear this had anything to do with the red spots on your truck. My truck gets covered with red spots every time I visit a particular off road park that used to be an iron mine. It takes some work, but it is possible to wash it off.
