it will be interesting to see those welds by the cab mounts after i cleaned them to bare steel, phosphoric acid coating them, 2 coats of primer and some extreme chassis gloss topcoat

i spent 5 hours of my life doing ONE cab mount in the front, 5 hours! 3 more to do means 15 more hours
it was extremely dangerous doing this & probably inhaled a serious amount of blasting sand turned to almost gray powder now after sifting and reusing it, a box of that stuff is north of $40

Here are some pictures of when I patched the floor in my 85 4runner for some inspiration...

16 gauge steel, and bought a HF bead roller which I beefed up before attempting to roll 16 gauge steel.

not sure what to do about this here, anybody ever seen anything like this?!?
was discovered whilst deep under the passenger front cab mount making it good
the corrosion inhibitor sprayed last year did a number on the old rubber undercoat like it said it would, softened it up real good
but what do we have here

thanks to everyone who has sent in pics of there rust, definitely makes me feel a little better knowing im not alone. I should have the hole in my floor patched soon and Im debating what i should do for sound deadening since all of mine has been stripped out. I was planning to buy a bunch of dynamat and just glue it to my floor but i have heard that linex can also work great for sound deadening. If anyone here has linexed their floor id love to here how that went and how it works

I'm still not convinced it's any worse than competing brands. When I got my frame replaced the service manager said, "No other brand would have authorized the frame replacement program like Toyota did", and I think he's right. Toyota built a reputation of having nearly indestructible trucks from the Land Cruisers and Hiluxes in the 70s/80s and the buyback/frame replacement was them trying to stand by that reputation. By settling the lawsuit and taking ownership of the issue I think they opened themselves up to a lot of criticism.

I see a similar number of F150s and Chevys from the same time period as our 1st gens on the roads around here. Which is to say a few, but not a ton. Cars just aren't made to last 20-30 years. Average person drives 12k miles a year, and if they get 10-15 years of use, I think most people are happy. Cost engineering will likely drive product design to match that expected lifespan.

    A lot
Correct. Best way to avoid rust is to move to sunny California. My 2000 Tacoma 4wd truck previously owned by the Department of Fish & Wildlife lived in the mountains for almost 20 years and no major rust can be seen in the body and underchassis....just my 2 cents suggestion. Thanks and all stay away from the virus and keep close to your Tacoma truck...& wife.
