I have a 2009 Tacoma double cab, love it. I just started noticing a rust spot under the back rear window. I brought it to the dealer and the District service manager, Brandon Henkel, found that water was getting trapped inside the rear window gasket, causing it to pool and eventually rust. They wont cover the repair as the truck is out of warranty. I cant even describe the frustration that I have with the fact that they wont cover it. I called the corporate office and they are telling me since it is out of warranty I am out of luck. Anyone have any tips on how to navigate this?

Why would yours rust, and others don't? Maybe the back glass was replaced at some point, and they did a piss-poor job? I bet this is the case, and if it is, maybe you could find out from your dealer if the back-glass was replaced before the vehicle was sold to you...

It's a long-shot, but damage does happen to new vehicles during delivery, and 100% of the time, the buyer is unaware of this damage, and the repairs... I know, I run a shop where we do it all the time for local dealers. I'd recommend looking into it. Can't hurt...

Tell them your story. Take photos also and document this. Your truck is warranted for 60 months from this type of oxidation.

Isn't the rust warranty for perforations only ?

I would like to see a pic of said rust to be honest. A red color on something isn't going to be covered but if you have a painted area that has developed rust on the surface then there is a problem.
