Everything in your engine bay can get wet; just driving in the rain will do that, that's how they get so dirty in the first place. If water causes a problem, you already had a problem.

I've heard of, but not used it, Eastwood salt neutralizer solution that maybe worth a look.

X-2! The de-icers they use on the roads here destroy good metal and bolts in no time. Really sad.

That's excessive. For perspective I'm in Canada where plenty of road salt is used and it rains 8 months of the year. I sold my 1988 Supra last month and it didn't look this bad. Makes me wonder if someone used some type of corrosive product to clean the engine bay. I know the "presoak" at the car wash is very hard on exposed/plated metal.

Just bought some Corrosion X online. Had a few people recommend it. Going to try that first then will give the POR-15 a try if that doesn't work out. Figure with a little light sanding and some elbow grease I can get it cleaned up. Then over to a detailer for an engine clean.

It's possible. We have guys that come to our office every week and hand wash our cars. I guess I don't watch what they do since they have always appeared to have done a good job. Could be that they have been washing my engine bay. I'll have to ask them when our office opens up again (hopefully they're still in business after all this covid stuff).

The best thing to do is mechanically remove the rust.

A rust neutralizing paint might be easier though.

I don't think it will ever look new and right with just a spray on solution.

Me? I'd probably hit what I could and paint with a neutralizing paint.... it's just a truck to me though. It's going to get some wear and tear.

Google rust converter, lots of ways to chemically change rust into gold! :D
    Well, not really gold :anonymous:

I've read elsewhere just through google searches about Corrosion X and CarPro Iron X

I will for sure start with mechanically removing the rust with wire brushes and sand paper. I will have to look into rust neutralizing paint as well. Thanks for all the great feed back. Not so much worried about the appearance, just concerned about longevity if I leave the rust unchecked.

We’re salty AF up here, and I’m no where near as rusted. Do you guys spray down your trucks?
