The new CRC is woolwax like Fluid Film. It actually looks and feels like congealed bacon fat. The nice thing is they use a special machine to clean and dry inside the boxed sections of the frame and coat everything inside, which is an area you're not going to get to without special tools.

    Service appointment went like clockwork.

K0D bulletin complied with. Parts and wax coating show on invoice.

I almost take back everything bad I've said about this dealer. Almost.

Man, the new car lot is empty. As in near vacant.

Interestingly, when I arrived to pick up said newly gooped up Tacoma, they 'were almost finished, just taking the required pictures'.

Seems they have to photo document this procedure. Smells of distrust there somewhere, but benefit of the doubt maybe it's for the engineers to better get a handle on the frame rust problem.

Naw. it's a lawyer thing. They already know that the 4th generation Tacoma needs a completely new frame design.

Same problem at three of the closest dealerships (central NJ and eastern PA). They had/were soon getting new equipment for the CRC, but with COVID, had not received the training or all the materials. I touch base with the closest one once a month or so to stay in the loop on it.

More study of the procedure and the limited area where the CRC is applied leads me believe this is less for the benefit of the vehicle owner and mostly to avoid liability by Toyota.

The front area of the frame where this is applied is critical for front suspension integrity and also to keep the frontal area stiff enough in case of a frontal collision for airbag function.

This is not actually much of an attempt at long term frame longevity, rather a way to assure the frame fails first in an area with limited impact to highway safety.

In other words, if your truck busts in half someplace behind the front suspension it's less likely to cause loss of control. The fact that Toyota 'did something' will look better in court.

And that's about it. I plan to have another inspection done shortly before 12 years time in service, evaluate the frame then, and plan my next vehicle purchase based on what we find.

It's disappointing. I was told prior to purchase that the frame issues were behind us. It is highly unlikely my next vehicle will be a Toyota.

Okay so 95-04 needed to get coated to be covered i know this because I had one. Now 05-10 says nothing about needing to be coated to be covered for the 12 years. It just says there are 2 expire dates one for the crc and one for the last date of 12 years.
I called Toyota and they told me I didn't need the coating to qualify for frame replacement within the 12 years (my trucks 2010). On the letter for 2011-2017 it says if you don't get it coated you won't qualify. Anyone know if the 2010 had to be coated because it says nothing about it anywhere and it makes me want to call toyota again to figure it out. Everything you posted is correct. ‘05-‘10 does not need to be coated to qualify. ‘11-‘17 does need to be coated to qualify.

The dealership I work at finally got the equipment to perform this procedure. Now all we have to do is get the training. I've offered my truck up as one they can experiment with.

@skatefreak282 can you hook this guy up with your dealer? They seemed like they had their shit together and were easy to work with.

I have a 2007 Taco that I just put a lift on yesterday by a small shop. I went to go put on my new set of wheels and found this rust thru on passenger side by cross member. I was so disheartened to see this. I had the inspection back in 2016 and it passed. They did spray it, so I'm assuming that's the CRC? I remember it stunk like tar or something rubbery. Should I still be qualified for the frame "recall"? I put a lot of work into my dream build to find this rust. My heart dropped when I jacked up the front and was getting ready to put jack stands underneath and voila! I could see a huge hole in my frame!!! Help please! Already contacted a Toyota dealership but left message for service manager and awaiting reply...hopefully tomorrow.

My truck has been at dealership since August 1. They called me today 11/10 and are starting the process. I did not have the CRC application. I was planning to wait until the last minute which was next March 2022. My frame rotted out below ac evap drain passenger side.

2010 Tacoma trd 4 door 6 ft bed 150k on it.

I have a 2015 I just bought used from a Honda dealership. It has white rubbery stuff in places and those plastic covers. But it doesn't look like it was applied like the above photos. The first thing I did when I got the truck was applied the fluid film myself everywhere on the frame. Is this something I can call the dealership and them do? Or did I actually need to buy the truck from Toyota new. The frame looks like a 8 or 9 out of 10. Some surface rust on the welds and inside the C channel. I covered this with FF. Do I need to start worrying now lol...

Nope, I bought my '08 on 2/19 with 160K in it. New frame completed 3/20.

I wouldn't, you're covered until 2027 (12yrs from in-service date). Sounds like you're on the ball with the FF, ect.
