Wont be any help for a '98. Even if it was checked and passed, it has been over 15 years.

OP, If it isn't terribly bad a welding shop may be able to repair it.

The first frame recall was for 95 - 2000 models. The second recall was for 2001 - 2004 models. Toyota no longer has frames for the 95 - 2000's. According to Toyota there were slight design changes between the two making them not interchangeable. Like Snowman said, a good frame restoration shop can fix you up. Had my 2001 frame replaced during the recall and have cleaned and touched up the paint every year after. Still looks like new.

    Mine is beyond restoration.
It was patched and "covered up"
Before i purchased it. I Didnt have any knowledge about the Frame recalls on the 04 i purchased, bc i live in the south and was never an issue with my MS 1998 taco.
Good news is i found a complete chassis.... Guy wants $1800 bucks for the 01 rolling chassis..... My 04 is a dbl cab just for reference.
    Does This sound reasonable?

That's a shame. Reminder to everyone that there's still people out there that will do anything to make a buck. Did you purchase it from a dealer? If so you could have a case of fraud. Any dealer has to inspect a vehicle before selling and can't (or shouldn't) sell it if it's unsafe. They represented the truck as safe when it was not. Also, Toyota should still have frames for an 04. Toyota was also willing to reimburse for any repairs done previous to the recall when mine was done. I'd definitely check with a Toyota dealer before doing anything else.
But to answer your question, if the rest of your truck is in good condition then I'd say heck ya. An 04 double cab is certainly worth it. I plan on keeping mine till there's nothing left to drive.

Toyota dealer looked at it last year when I first got wind of rusty frame recalls from others online....toyota corporate informed me they would not be doing anything bc the previous owner failed to acknowledge any damage and didn't bring the truck in for an inspection/repairs when they mailed the original notice?!
Sounded like a crock to me.... I've also saw some other posts about people who have taken theirs to the dealer for spray coatings ect and Toyota still will not replace their frame.... Making excuses....
Other dealers do offer frames for my 04 crew cab... To the tune of 4,000$....
I called last week just curiousity.

I seem to remember there was a deadline on my recall notice.
Offer the "rolling chassis" guy $1500 and hope he bites.
