I'm replacing my front stock coilovers with some Foxes. I'm having a very difficult time actually removing the stock ones however. The 3 nuts holding them in at the top won't budge. These are 14mm, correct? I put a 6pt socket on one of them and stripped it incredibly easily. Same story with another one, and on the third, a 13mm actually fits over it.

My frame was replaced, but I don't know when. Regardless, Toyota had to take off the assembly and mount it onto the new frame. Anyhow, the studs and nuts are rusted to Hell. I've been soaking them in PB Blaster for the week prior to attempting this.

Has anybody had to cut these out? Any advice or tips for doing so?

I haven't bothered trying to look at the other side yet. I was able to loosen the 19mm bolt holding the bottom of the shock in though, so that's good.

Living here in Pa when I went to change The front Suspension every one of those twisted out so the whole piece just spun.

I broke out the 4.5" grinder and cut them all off Using a cutting disc not a grinding one.

It was a pain but the only way they were coming off.

^ exactly. cut them off and get new ones. we rust belt people know all too well.

not sure if they make SS quality ones or not but you can put grease on the new studs and nut once they are on to deter any future rust.

As a fellow "rust belter", I have adopted the policy that any nut or bolt that I remove goes back on with a liberal coating of anti-seize compound (obviously excluding those that get locktite). Recently removed my trailer hitch after 12 years, and the nuts were still shiny on the inside!! Same with my leveling disks on top of the coilovers, came right off last year.

Nor I on the locktite, but didn't want someone to ding me on that point if I was forgetting something.

Thanks for the help; I was able to cut the nuts off with a Dremel tool. Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
