    Most it can.

My brother had one that slide over the hitch pin.
The hitch pin has shallow grooves in that ball bearings road in.
Good design to retain strength. As it use just about the full thickness of the hitch pin.
You were breaking that one off.

I had to use a cut off disk on an angle grinder and some carbide sawzall blades.
    That one sucked......

This is where a induction heater shines. Place the appropriate size induction wires over the nut and bolt threads and fire it up for a couple of minutes. Let cool, apply Kroil or a GOOD penetrating oil to it a couple times as it cools. Wipe off excess, reheat, grab threads of bolt with a GOOD set of vice grips, unscrew the bolt up.

I've found this generally breaks the tumbler but I see your point.

Exactly what happened to me. I had to cut mine yesterday because the previous owner lost the key.

This isn't advisable but it's what I did. I took a Sawzall and cut off the insert leaving a 1" piece extending out of the receiver. Then I (very carefully) cut a the insert lengthwise almost all the way through. Hammer and chisel to kinda fold the insert inward and pounded it out from behind (giggity). I tried sledge and oil for about a week. Tried tugging on it gently (be careful doing shit like that). In the end I got it out but you run the risk of cutting into your receiver which is a bad thing.

Do I spend the 200 for an induction heater or can I use a propane torch that I already got in my garage? Just to be clear I should heat the welded nut and the rest of the broken bolt?

Had a friend with similar stuck ball mount on his Ranger. Looked ok but had been saltwater dipped launching his sailboat a couple times too many.

Tried several ways to get the ball mount out of the receiver with no luck. Finally realized a new hitch would be cheaper and easier!

A torch is just fine for this application

IMG_1287.jpg A night of pb blaster, 2 pieces of wood and a BFH later tow hitch was removed. Thank you all for the advice and next up is the broken bolt.
