Window and trim is a unit. Have to remove and replace the entire thing as a unit. Hopefully its just some simple hardware rust and not anything structural :)

This has become a bigger problem than I thought, one shop quoted me close to $500. The other about $300 and mention about getting back with me yesterday about a window gasket, haven't heard from him. He pointed out the roof plastic strips, going from the front to the back underneath the rubber molding. This is causing water and trash to find their way under the rear rubber window molding. The rubber molding holds in the water and trash. Their's no caulk so it's a great environment for rust. One body man pointed out weep holes, small dimples 5 inches in from the corner of the bottom of the frame. I'm beginning to think about just ordering a new rear sliding window and hope it comes with a good gasket and caulk. This seems to be another abortion of Toyota as far as the way the Tacoma's are design. Last month took it in for frame rust inspection, was told their wasn't any. They did notice an oil leak, I informed them if they had used more gasket material I wouldn't have an oil leak around my timing chain cover. Now the time allotted for the recall, has expired for the fix has expired. Their pointing this out now so I can pay them to fix their f__k up. Had purchased this truck 3.5 years ago, it now has 94K miles on it and had to replaced the catalytic converter, air injection pump, valve cover gasket, steering wheel rubber has separated from the medal frame and now this mentally challenged way of rear window engineering. This reminds me of what GM does, you make it to fall apart after your last truck payment!

If it makes you feel any better.... The 05 was the worst year for the 2nd gen by far.

Its just a plague of the first year of the body style that almost all auto makers go through

Tend to agree, at the time I was debating 03 or 04 Tacoma, but didn't want the pain of installing a rubber timing belt. I can see the raping that this manufacture is doing, and feel sorry for people who pay $30K plus for a vehicle. This rear window they embedded the molding to the rear window, how sick is that?

I let it sit outside under an oak tree. In which it get allot of leaves and droppings. If I had parked it under a carport or garage. I wouldn't think it wouldn't be an issue. It's a 05 so that makes it 10 years old! Father time can play some mean tricks if you're not careful. Today I'm going to clean out my garage so I can park it inside. Just afraid of my wife is going to destroy it and the garage, trying to park the truck inside. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTKFaBvW6oc

I've been looking at this rear window. On the Tacoma's they put an embedded frame around the glass and sell it as one unit. Other manufactures it's a rubber seal in which the glass sits in the rubber and some even glue it in place. Their's allot of aftermarket rear windows that sell the window with calk, but that's actually gluing it in place just like the front window. Wonder if Toyota did this to help you get out encase of an emergency?
