Im only familiar with Fluid Film, not whatever product Toyota uses at the dealership. But as you say, it usually looks like a very thick oily wax type of stuff. Your truck looks bone dry in those pictures. Road spray from the tires can and does wash the stuff away over time, so good places to check would be above the spare tire, or deep in the channel / boxed sections of the frame. If places like that are also dry its a good bet they never did your truck. Take it in and discuss with the service manager. Im assuming you have receipts from last years 'treatment'?

Personally I would just do fluid film yourself, but maybe the service manager will offer to do it for free this year in light of their oversight. But at any rate your truck still looks really good!

Thanks everyone. Guess I'll be having a WTF conversion with the Service Manager on Monday. I've dealt with him before on another issue and he is very customer minded and reasonable.

I did ask him if the rear end fill plug should be that rusty for a vehicle that was undercoated. His response was that he noticed that also and will check it out. I'm thinking that he's also questioning if the undercoating was done.

SR-71A. The Toyota Rust Proofing and Undercoating is a one time application and comes with a warranty. Little known fact is that an inspection is required every 2 years to validate the warranty. Touch ups done as needed based on the inspection.

Where I live they use so much salt you literally trip over the rock salt under your feet not the ice. Everyone is scared of liability. I use rust check. Works great

does Ford use a different type of frame paint/coating?
that discourages the seep and creep?

i 'rustproofed' mine new before it left the lot in spring of 1997 with known treatments at the time or the best the salesman knew of i guess.. after 22.5 years it is a foggy memory anymore

Ohio may be different from the outskirts of the mid west my truck has been subjected to for 2 decades of winter driving
no great lakes hovering to the north of me anyways, if that makes a difference :notsure:
we do occasionally get ice blasted from that gulf air meeting Canadian arctic

    i like this new info

my 1st experience with FF this year after learning about it from TW
its a sticky icky mess and gets on my hair and clothes when i have to get under, plus it was washing off kind of easy it seemed through the power wash with undersprayer
how does Mavcoat hold up to the underbody power washing? or deep sloppy winter puddles

Harharhar... you must have never heard of the insurance lobby? Those motherfuckers are evil. They could not care less if your shit rusts and the environment is destroyed if they get to pay out less accident claims

After the first year I didn't notice any areas that the coating was completely removed or see any rust on my second application. They say it should be reapplied every 6 months, I went 12 months, but really just looking for protection against the salt brine in the winter. I've applied FF and it's messy. Mavcoat is thin, so I'm hoping it was able to get in all the creases, and difficult to reach areas.

brine should be used on foods not roads!
    https://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/basic-brine-seafood-poultry-pork
Brining is a technique that submerges food in a salt solution to prevent moisture loss during cooking, creating succulent, juicy bites. Use our Basic Brine for fish and shrimp, or for white meat, such as chicken, turkey, or pork chops.

Yours was not done at all. I hadn't he same treatment done at the dealer and it's a noticeable difference. They did not touch your under carriage. That's just terrible neglect from that dealer.

I'm just outside the burbs of Chicago, farm country, and out here we get a mixture of sand, salt most of the time, and they hit our bridges with beet juice, what ever that does. I dont mind rust underneath on the frame and stuff, but in am concerned with the body panels. I'm coming from a F150 with aluminum panels so I didnt worry as much

you sound like me some 22.5 years ago and a short 500 miles away! on the Missouri river, before anything was known about the bad taco frames
i also came from an old late 70s F250 my Dad had that was not pretty and bad on the MPG, no aluminum panels that i recall on that big truck
over the years i have really only been concerned with keeping the body panels corrosion free, have only found a few spots over the 2 decades that had to get a little touchup where the paint was bubbling , and found a few more while underneath behind mud flaps while modifying the crappy taco frame paint

I just sprayed my 2016 with the Woolwax Amazon kit that came with an airgun. Mine is not a DD and I try not to drive it after the road is salted. I just paid it off and am hoping it is my last vehicle purchase, so I'm trying to make it last. The Woolwax went on pretty easy, but I needed 100+ psi pull it into the fun. I think the instructions said 70-90.

i have not come to terms why the FF seems to be the overwhelming standard of choice!?
when there are SO MANY options out there!

from what i have gathered on two options as an example

    FF is from California
    Krown is from Canada

which one of these places do you think knows best

not wanting to stoke any fires here
just curious as a cat

Many areas in NYS have changed over to the sprayed brine (utilizing spray regulators), cuts the overall salt amounts by 50%-70%.

"NY Sanitation Dept used an average of 40,248,000 lbs of salt during 2016-2018 winter storms with 2 inches or less of snow accumulation. This works out to more than a ton of salt per lane mile"

I had good luck (other have too) with the woolax pro gun kit on Amazon and a bucket of FF. Bit pricey, but once you’ve got it you’re set for years to come. My first time doing it I felt like a pro after 10 mins of using the sprayer and wands. I honestly can’t imagine doing it with the cans. Hope you give FF another shot. When it works for you, you’ll see why everyone on here is drinking the Kool Aid
